Mr Beautiful Reveals Reason for Social Media Hiatus

Mr Beautiful

Ghanaian actor, Clement Bonney, popularly known as Mr Beautiful, and an outspoken supporter of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has revealed the reason that led to his departure from social media.

He noted that it was due to the harsh nature of the words critics used on him when he publicly threw his weight behind former President John Mahama.

Mr Beautiful who declared the ex-president and flagbearer of the NDC, the winner of the 2016 elections, was heavily criticized after the results went the other way, and even received insults from fans to even his own colleagues.

He explained that ever since he made his decision public, people just go on to his social media pages just to insult and make defamatory statements against him.

“For eight years I was off social media because people just came there to insult me, just because of my affiliation to John Mahama and my declaration of the 2016 election,” Mr Beautiful added.

The ‘Ama Ghana’ actor revealed that since he rejoined social media he has received some uplifting messages and apologies from fans who once insulted him because of his statements.

He even recounted an apology a lady on social media sent to him for the insults she rained on him because of his affiliations.

“Somebody sent me a message from Takoradi in the Western Region, and you know Sekondi, and Takoradi are typical NPP communities. A young lady from there sent me a message saying, Mr beautiful I never liked you when I was growing up because of your NDC and Mahama thing, but today I want you to ask almighty Allah for forgiveness, for me because I insulted you.

“I never liked you, not knowing you saw something we did not see, anytime I see you on TV I feel bad because my conscience is not clear.”

Mr Beautiful

Mr Beautiful recounted how producers directly told him that his political affiliation with the NDC was not well-received in Kumasi, making them hesitant to cast him.

He mentioned that Paul Gee, a prominent figure in Kumawood, had personally told him that they could not cast him in movies because the industry was dominated by people from Kumasi, many of whom support the NPP.

Mr Beautiful highlighted how American celebrities like Stevie Wonder can openly support political candidates without facing such repercussions.

“We are not yet mature enough to understand democracy, so when I say it didn’t affect me, then it’s a lie. I was sidelined in the movie industry, which reduced the quality of content my followers had to enjoy. There is only one Mr Beautiful, so if you sideline me and think you can replace me with someone else, it won’t work.”

Mr Beautiful

Mr Beautiful also shared an incident in South Africa, where he went to shoot a commercial.

Upon discovering his NDC affiliation, the marketing director refused to proceed with the project, citing his political stance as the reason.

“They brought me back to Ghana,” he recalled.

Mr Beautiful who has released a song in support of the NDC presidential candidate called ‘The Gamechanger’ is currently on a radio tour promoting the song, which explains the 24-hour economy policy.

Mr Beautiful revealed why he joined the opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and has been campaigning for the party over the years.

Mr Beautiful is one of the celebrities in Ghana who has been campaigning for the opposition party and has consistently been spotted at major events of the party

The actor detailed why he gives his full support to the NDC.

According to him, he read a book written by the first president of Ghana, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah which talked about Ghana and Africa as a whole and how the country can be developed.

He revealed that after reading the book, he realized that he belonged to the NDC because they are the only political party in Ghana that can develop the country.

“I read a book authored by Dr. Kwame Nkrumah with the title, ‘The Voice of Conakry’. After reading the book, I was able to define where I belong. Immediately after reading the book, I realized I was an NDC. Nkrumah talked about Africa and Ghana.

“He also talked about how Ghana can be developed.  So I realized that the only political party that can develop Ghana is the NDC.”
