Mahama Files Presidential Nomination on Monday

Former President John Dramani Mahama

The National Democratic Congress flagbeaer, former President John Dramani Mahama is set to officially submit his nomination papers on Monday, September 9, at 2:00 p.m., marking a critical milestone in his bid to reclaim the presidency in the December 7 general elections.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer will be joined by his Vice Presidential Candidate, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, as he formalizes his candidacy at the Electoral Commission.

Joyce Bawah Mogtari, the spokesperson for Mahama’s campaign, confirmed the nomination date, emphasizing its significance to the NDC’s broader mission of securing victory and revitalizing the country.

Mahama’s Vision: Jobs, Education, and Healthcare

With the theme “Building the Ghana We Want Together,” Mahama’s campaign is anchored in economic recovery, inclusive governance, and improved social services.

As part of his key pledges, he has committed to reshaping the country’s educational landscape. The former president also plans to significantly invest in infrastructure and teacher training to ensure that no child is left behind in the nation’s educational system.

Former President Mahama has also prioritised healthcare reform, promising accessible and free primary healthcare for all Ghanaians.

This initiative is designed to reduce healthcare disparities, particularly in rural and underserved areas, and to ease the financial burden on citizens seeking medical services.

A Nationwide Tour to Build Momentum

Beyond the nomination submission, former   President Mahama will embark on a four-day tour of the Bono Region, starting Sunday, September 8th 2024, as part of his #Mahama4Change2024 campaign.

Joyce Bawah Mogtari, the Spokesperson for the Mahama Campaign, in another statement, noted that this leg of the tour will see him visit all 12 constituencies within the region, engaging with traditional authorities, religious leaders, and various community groups.

According to her, former President Mahama will also make a courtesy call on the Bono Regional House of Chiefs, underscoring the NDC’s commitment to strengthening ties with local leadership and addressing regional concerns.

An important highlight of the tour will be a youth forum at Sunyani Technical University, where the National Democratic Congress flagbearer will engage with students and young professionals on issues of job creation, entrepreneurship, and innovation.

“As the countdown to the elections begins, Mahama’s candidacy has gained momentum. He aims to rally support from across the country to fulfil the collective aspiration of building a better Ghana”.

Youth unemployment remains a central issue for the NDC leader, who has outlined several policies aimed at stimulating economic growth and providing sustainable job opportunities for the country’s burgeoning youth population.

With the economy as a key battleground in this election cycle, former President Mahama has consistently highlighted the NDC’s economic recovery plan, which promises innovative policies to spur growth across multiple sectors.

His campaign is focused on rebuilding the economy through industrialization, boosting agriculture, and improving infrastructure to attract foreign investment and create jobs.

He has also made accountability a central theme, stressing the importance of transparent governance to restore public trust and confidence in leadership.

The NDC leader has committed to reviewing existing contracts, addressing concerns over corruption, and improving public financial management.

As the December 7 elections draw closer, the National Democratic Congress flagbearer is keen on his message aimed at tackling the country’s most pressing challenges.

His leadership experience, combined with his promise to usher in a new era of economic stability and social equity, according to his party members and supporters set him apart from his contenders.
