NDC Petitions EC, Insists Forensic Audit of 2024 Voters Register

NDC Supporters Participating in its EnoughIsEnough Nationwide Demo

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has extended its deep gratitude to Ghanaians across the nation for their participation in the party’s latest demonstration, calling for a forensic audit of the 2024 voters’ register.

In a press release signed by the NDC’s General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the party lauded the overwhelming support, emphasizing the need for transparency and fairness in the electoral process.

The NDC stressed that the demonstration was not just a march, but a national declaration of the people’s determination to protect the integrity of Ghana’s democracy.

“Yesterday’s action was not just a demonstration but a declaration that we, the people of Ghana, will not accept anything less than transparency and accountability in our elections. A forensic audit is a necessary step to maintain the integrity of our democracy and ensure that every vote truly counts”.

Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, General Secretary, NDC

The NDC reiterated that its demand for this audit aligns with the Electoral Commission’s (EC) motto of “Transparency, Fairness, and Integrity” and urged the EC to live up to its stated values.

While the demonstration has concluded, the NDC assured its supporters that the fight for electoral integrity is far from over.

The party made it clear that it remains steadfast in its mission to ensure a credible voters’ register, stating “Although the demonstration has ended, our fight continues”, vowing to explore all legal and democratic avenues available to press home their demands.

The NDC also expressed its resolve to continue engaging with all relevant stakeholders to safeguard the upcoming election and restore public confidence in the process.

Fifi Fiavi Kwetey’s statement further highlighted the party’s intention to keep the pressure on the EC until their calls for an audit are addressed.

The NDC insisted that any discrepancy or irregularity in the voters’ register could have a far-reaching impact on the credibility of the election results and, by extension, the legitimacy of the next government.

The party expressed its committment to continue to champion the cause of electoral reforms and insists that the forensic audit is a crucial step toward ensuring the integrity of the process.

Mahama Echoes Calls for Electoral Justice

Former President John Dramani Mahama, the NDC’s flagbearer for the 2024 election, also expressed his appreciation to the Ghanaian public for their active involvement in the protest.

In a separate statement issued ahead of his campaign tour in the Ahafo Region, former President Mahama commended the demonstrators, the NDC executives, and the Elections Directorate for their resolute stand in advocating for a forensic audit of the voters’ register.

The National Democratic Congress Presidential Candidate emphasized that the demonstration transcends a mere demand for an audit as it symbolizes the call for justice, fairness, and protection of Ghana’s democratic rights.

“The commitment of all Ghanaians to ensuring free, fair and transparent elections is a testament to our shared determination, as a people, to guarantee the integrity of our electoral process”.

He urged the Electoral Commission to live up to the trust Ghanaians have placed in the institution, warning against any actions that could undermine the credibility of the 2024 elections.

“The Commission must not betray the trust Ghanaians have had in the institution and its operations,” former President Mahama remarked, cautioning that any failure to uphold transparency could erode the very foundation of Ghana’s democracy.

As the NDC intensifies its #Mahama4Change2024 campaign, former President John Dramani Mahama’s message to the public remains one of unity and vigilance.

He called on party supporters and all Ghanaians to remain engaged and resolute, assuring that the NDC will continue to pursue its demands for a free and fair electoral process through peaceful and democratic means.

The NDC’s demand for a forensic audit of the voters’ register comes amid concerns raised by the party and other various civil society organizations and political observers over the credibility of the electoral roll.

With the 2024 general elections on the horizon, the party’s leadership has underscored the importance of maintaining public trust in the Electoral Commission, which they believe is key to the stability of Ghana’s democratic institutions.
