NDC Operative Raises Concerns Over NPP’s Power Retention Efforts

According to James Agbey, a National Democratic Congress (NDC) operative, there are concerted efforts by the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government to unjustifiably cling to power after December 7.

Agbey added that it has become apparent that Ghanaians want to chart a new path with a John Mahama presidency.

He stated that the NDC has received information from a reliable source indicating that President Akufo-Addo’s government is not prepared to relinquish power following the elections on December 7.

“In private and in public, the President is telling his people that Mahama doesn’t deserve another shot at the Presidency. In fact, President Akufo-Addo has, on several occasions, made the point that he’s not going to hand over power to John Mahama.

“Several NPP stalwarts including the party’s flagbearer, Dr. Bawumia have repeated the same message on several platforms”.

James Agbey, NDC Operative

Agbey noted that he perceives similarities between the situation we are gradually entering and the circumstances in Ivory Coast in 2010 when President Laurent Gbagbo refused to concede power after losing the presidential election.

He remarked that Gbagbo’s reprehensible actions in a nation already scarred by civil war ignited a conflict that jeopardized regional stability and served as a serious warning to the rest of Africa.

He emphasized that thousands of people were killed and over a million fled their homes during the five months that incumbent Laurent Gbagbo refused to step down after losing the presidential election.

In response to what he described as the ongoing mind games by Akufo-Addo, Agbey issued a strong warning to Akufo-Addo, Bawumia, and Matthew Opoku Prempeh to be cautious with their words.

Agbey stated that it is widely recognized that elections are won or lost long before the first ballot is cast.

He added that, clearly, the NPP has lost ground across the entire country, as voters have become disenchanted and weary of the failed policies of the Akufo-Addo administration.

Agbey Hammered On Issues Facing Ghanaians

Furthermore, James Agbey pointed out that the issues currently concerning Ghanaians—including the cost-of-living crisis, cuts in public services, and the impact of the dollar rate—are all affecting ordinary citizens.

He asserted that these challenges are likely to lead voters to oust the NPP in the upcoming election on December 7.

Accra Market Economic Activities

Agbey observed that this situation has caused the NPP and the Akufo-Addo government to become anxious, leading them to resort to various undemocratic practices.

“At this juncture, I James Agbey, an operative of the National Democratic Congress(NDC) would want to put on record that, any attempt by the Akufo-Addo regime to cause mayhem during and after the elections will be very disastrous for both Akufo-Addo and Dr. Bawumia’s political legacy.

“We’re simply not going to sit back and watch while any nation wrecker through their actions plunge our dear nation into chaos”.

James Agbey, NDC Operative

He urged that, just as Rawlings handed over power to Kufuor, Kufuor to Mills, and Mahama to Akufo-Addo, the nation expects another peaceful transfer of political power from Akufo-Addo to John Mahama after the 2024 elections.

Accordingly, Agbey maintained that this is crucial for the stability and democratic integrity of the country.

“Anything short of that will definitely destroy everything President Akufo-Addo has fought for all his life”. – James Agbey

He asserted that a much tougher stance is required against “democratic despots” like Akufo-Addo, who seem to believe they can act with impunity despite Ghanaians’ desire to see the NPP removed from power.

Agbey emphasized that Akufo-Addo and Bawumia embody everything negative in Ghanaian politics, and the Ghanaian people must deliver a clear message to them in this election.

He cautioned that any post-election violence or chaos should be attributed to Akufo-Addo and Bawumia.

“And if they want to be smoked out of a rat hole and chased out of town like the former Ivorian President, Laurent Gbagbo, so be it”. – James Agbey
