Trigmatic Describes Pan-African Music Switch

Trigmatic

Ghanaian rapper, Trigmatic has opened up on the consequences of his decision to focus on making Pan-African-based music.

Trigmatic mentioned that it’s been a very difficult journey after shifting from making club bangers to churning out songs that inspire self-actualization and Pan-Africanism.

“It’s been worth it, it’s been very fulfilling… [but] it’s been a period of loneliness, being misunderstood and so forth. [Switching to conscious music] was very painful, I lost team members, some of them didn’t understand me,” Trigmatic intimated.

The ‘Motromodwo’ hitmaker, however, explained that on the brighter side, he resorted to staying consistent with his new-found love and way of making music that informs, educates, and positively impacts his audience.

This, he said, was informed by his visit to Nigeria for Felabration (a concert in honor of Legendary Nigerian Musician Fela Kuti), during which artists billed for performance exhibited their knowledge, passion, and resignation with African culture.

According to him, upon return to Ghana and despite eventually losing team members and deals with promoters, he was poised to carry on making wholesome music because he was “seeing things differently, yet people around [him] still didn’t see it”.

Trigmatic revealed that he wishes to look back at his music when he’s 60 and be proud of the art he put out due to its quality and impact. He cited Highlife legend Daddy Lumba’s 60’s birthday celebration and about 3 decades of his active music career as an example of why he believes in making timeless music.

“Daddy Lumba is 60… It’s been over 30 years of him performing actively and recording. I am sure that kind of fulfillment is something that comes with a lot of sacrifices… If you can’t go through the pain then you’re not ready for it.”

Despite not gaining frequent performance spots on nationwide music shows, Trigmatic insists that he feels fulfilled for staying consistent with his dream of positively impacting music lovers with his records rather not allowing his talent to die inwardly.

Trigmatic To Celebrate Nkrumah on October 4

Ghanaians will have an encore of the celebration of Kwame Nkrumah’s achievements at Trigmatic’s Osagyefo’s Night Concert slated for October 4, 2024, at Alliance Francaise.

This comes after Ghanaians observed a holiday in honor of Ghana’s first President on his birthday, September 21, 2024.

According to Trigmatic, this is the third edition of the concert which was inspired by a reflection of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s great efforts and achievements in the history of Ghana, especially in the areas of arts and theatre.

Trigmatic stated that he traveled around Africa and anytime he mentioned his country of origin, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s name came up strongly.

Speaking about the concert’s birth, he revealed, “When I looked at how they eulogized him, I [thought to myself] we don’t do this that much, so why not do something a concert around Dr. Nkrumah.”

The decision was heavily supported by fellow broadcaster and friend Antoine Mensah.

“I read a bit more about some of the things that Dr. Nkrumah did for arts and it blew my mind. Since then I said let’s do this and call it Osagyefo’s Night, if not for anything, to remind people in the art space that this is a man who had the arts at heart and actually did things that would enable the industry.”

Trigmatic

The 2024 edition of Osagyefo’s Night Concert will present story-telling performances, an art exhibition, as well as live music performances by headline artiste Trigmatic and a host of his friends from the music industry in Ghana.

For the first time since its inception, the concert will especially feature theatre, a concept that connects Trigmatic’s story to Dr. Nkrumah’s story.

Trigmatic, known in real life as Nana Yaw Oduro-Agyei is expected to perform about 20 songs live on stage with Adwenpa Band and says the theatre facet of the event “is a collaborative work with Abibigromma Group and Ghana Dance Ensemble”, with narration from celebrated Ghanaian poet Nana Asaase.
