Mercy Asiedu Declares Herself Nonpartisan

Mercy Asiedu

Ghanaian actress, Mercy Asiedu has asserted she is only “a star that shines on all” and is nonpartisan.

She was explaining why she has been seen engaging both the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

“It’s just that in Ghana when you speak the truth, people think you are supporting this group and opposing the other. I don’t let it bother me nor am I surprised.”

Mercy Asiedu

She explained that she went to see NDC flagbearer, John Mahama at AH Hotel “because I am a creative arts person and he was meeting players of the creative arts.”

The Kumawood actress stated that while at the engagement, she impressed the former president to take his promises to the creative arts seriously.

She testified during his initial tenure, Mahama had allowed creative arts players to own cars on loan and expressed fondness for the initiative.

“If God wills and you come into power, don’t forget what you’ve said. Mahama has done it before, he’s given some of us cars, and so if he says he’ll take care of us once he is back in office, all I am saying is, he shouldn’t forget us.”

She categorically stated, however, “This is not a campaign message.”

The Kumawood star noted that she was not afraid to speak the truth and point to what is right without any sense of favoritism.

She added that she was not moved by the insults that came her way online when her participation in the said engagement and her remarks were captured by the media.

Actress Cites Her Ultimate Fashion Rule

Mercy Asiedu disclosed that her ultimate fashion rule is “what is pleasing” to her and her husband, and what “fits my body”.

The actress reacted to unsavory comments about her fashion sense, especially coming from fashion critic Charlie Dior.

“I don’t dress to please anybody but myself and my husband. If I wear something and my husband objects, I’ll take it off. I dress to please him and not anyone else.”

Mercy Asiedu

The Kumawood star said anyone who has time to comment on other people’s dressing “perhaps doesn’t have a job”.

“Those criticizing my sense of fashion are a bunch of jobless beings. If you have something keeping you busy, you won’t sit on social media to criticise my outfit.

“Only my husband and children’s opinions about my dressing will affect and hurt me. My fans love me too. I am not bothered by the opinions of someone sitting in a hole somewhere and criticising me.”

Mercy Asiedu

Mercy Asiedu’s response sparked mixed reactions from social media users.

“The truth is that she doesn’t dress taking into account her body type. I believe she can’ take criticisms in good faith if it is done in a way that is not a mockery.”

“It’s like the older generation still don’t get it. Hello, ma, everything has become a job in this generation. All you have to do is to do it well, and it gets paid, ma.”

“She wears what she has, so it is not about criticism. Check the dressing of the person who always criticized others.”

nana_ekua_aa

“When I see the things he wears when he attends events, I wonder where he picks his guts from to criticize others.”

In other news, Mercy Asiedu stated that Kumawood filmmakers usually take out sexually charged scenes from their movies. “Our main goal is to educate,” she said.

“Don’t forget it’s not only for adults, children are also involved. Due to this, we edit out some things so that it will not negatively affect a child watching. Behind the scenes, we kiss a lot in the movies.”

Mercy Asiedu

Mercy Asiedu also indicated there was no movie role she had ever turned down.

She also disclosed TV star Akrobeto was her favorite male actor of all time.
