Madam Elizabeth Sam, the running mate of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), has called on Ghanaians to give her party a chance in the upcoming December 7 elections, emphasizing the party’s commitment to gender equity and social welfare.

In a recent interview, Madam Sam revealed that the LPG plans to significantly increase the appointment of women to leadership positions if they win power.

“We are committed to the Affirmative Action (Gender Equity) Act, and more women will be appointed to positions of trust to steer the affairs of this country in the right direction.”

Madam Sam doted that the LPG believes in the value of experience and competence when it comes to appointments, stressing that these qualities, rather than mere academic qualifications, would be the key criteria for selecting women to high-ranking positions.

Madam Sam’s nomination as the running mate of the LPG is a signal of the party’s dedication to empowering women and ensuring that gender parity becomes a reality in governance.

“My nomination shows that the LPG is a party that can be trusted to deliver on its promises of women empowerment.

“We are ready to reserve more than 30 percent of government positions for women. This is not just a campaign promise—it’s our commitment to Ghanaian women.”

She highlighted the importance of providing women with leadership opportunities, arguing that when women are placed in key positions of trust, they can help move the country forward by offering fresh perspectives and more inclusive governance.

Madam Sam believes that, with the LPG in power, Ghana will see a shift in how leadership roles are allocated, opening up space for women to influence key policy areas.

Madam Sam’s background as a businesswoman and philanthropist has made her a strong advocate for vulnerable populations. Her work in running a non-governmental organization (NGO) dedicated to supporting aged women who are often accused of witchcraft has earned her significant respect within the country.

“I got attracted to the LPG because of its focus on human-centered policies, especially for the youth, women, and children. It’s what motivated me to become more involved in politics and to mobilize grassroots support for the party,” she said.

Breaking the NPP-NDC Dominance for Ghana’s Future

Madam Sam is optimistic about the upcoming 2024 elections, describing them as a pivotal moment for Ghana’s future.

She called on the electorate to consider breaking away from the dominance of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the two major political parties that have alternated in power since Ghana’s return to multi-party democracy.

“The 2024 elections will be crucial in determining the direction of this country. It’s time for Ghanaians to break the NPP-NDC cycle of dominance and vote for the LPG, a party that is ready to bring rapid development and real change,” she urged.

According to her, the LPG represents a fresh alternative with practical solutions to the nation’s problems, from youth unemployment to gender inequality. She urged Ghanaians to consider the party’s track record of promoting social welfare and its bold policy proposals, including women’s empowerment, as reasons to trust them with their votes.

“We have human-centered policies such as paying child support and providing unemployment benefits, which will directly address the issues of children begging on the streets and the high rate of youth unemployment,” she stated.

According to her, these initiatives are critical to improving the lives of ordinary Ghanaians and reducing poverty across the nation.

Madam Elizabeth Sam is a symbol of the LPG’s commitment to reshaping Ghana’s political landscape, ensuring that women play an integral role in governance, and implementing policies that directly improve the lives of Ghanaians.
