GLICO Healthcare Donates GHS 100,000 to Children Battling Cancer at KBTH

GLICO Healthcare Donation

Children battling cancer at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital have received much-needed relief following a generous donation by GLICO Healthcare.

The health insurance company presented a sum of GHS 100,000 to the Pediatric Oncology Unit to enhance treatment for young patients, marking a significant milestone in their efforts to support childhood cancer care.

This donation was part of a series of activities celebrating two decades of GLICO Healthcare’s leadership in the private health insurance sector.

At the donation event, Dr. David Ofosu Ejei, Chairman of the Board of GLICO Healthcare, emphasized that this contribution would not be a one-time event but rather the beginning of a long-term commitment.

GLICO Healthcare plans to collaborate with the Lifeline for Children Cancer Foundation to ensure continued support for children with cancer as part of its broader corporate social responsibility (CSR) program.

According to Dr. Ejei, this donation will not be just a one-time activity. but then they plan to partner with the Lifeline for Children Cancer Foundation to continue providing support for children with cancer. Corporate social responsibility is a key part of their mission, and they are committed to making a lasting impact.

The chairman reiterated GLICO Healthcare’s dedication to helping alleviate the financial burden of treatment for children with cancer and their families, underscoring the institution’s belief in giving back to society.

Raising Awareness About Childhood Cancer

Board member of GLICO Healthcare, Madam Phyllis Amatey, also spoke at the event, emphasizing the importance of raising awareness about childhood cancer and the need for public support to lessen the burdens faced by parents of children battling the disease.

“Cancer does not know a child, it does not know an elderly person. [It doesn’t discriminate]; it affects anybody. Children, however, are the most vulnerable when it comes to this. We went around, and we saw a lot, which motivated us to bring this donation. We hope the public will join us in the future also join this coach in helping the parents to bring the treatment to children so that they can have a healthier life.’’

Madam Amatey expressed the hope that the donation would inspire others in the private and public sectors to contribute towards easing the emotional and financial toll that childhood cancer places on families.

Encouraging a Healthier Future for Children

During her interactions with the media, Phyllis Amatey also addressed the importance of proper nutrition in promoting the healthy development of children. She admonished parents to provide nutritious meals for their children to help reduce the incidence of cancer and other diseases.

“Children are growing, and we need to give them the right food, products, [and] supplements so that as they grow, [they will develop properly and maintain balanced health], and also it would prevent from non-communicable disease.”

Madam Amatey’s message emphasized the role of nutrition in maintaining children’s overall health and the potential to mitigate some risks associated with childhood cancers through preventive measures.

Viewing the New Children’s Ward

As part of the event, the team from GLICO Healthcare took the opportunity to tour the newly refurbished children’s ward at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital. The visit underscored the hospital’s ongoing efforts to improve the facilities and environment for children receiving care at the Pediatric Oncology Unit.

The new ward is expected to provide a more comfortable space for young cancer patients, facilitating better treatment and recovery.

The visit reinforced the importance of creating a supportive and conducive environment for the recovery of children undergoing cancer treatment, and GLICO Healthcare’s leadership expressed their commitment to being an active part of this transformation.
