Nollywood actor, Yul Edochie has kicked against flogging African children for speaking their mother tongue.

Taking to his Instagram page, he admonished parents to teach their children English as it is important for communication. However, they shouldn’t flog them for speaking their mother tongue as it’s unacceptable.

“Yes, teach children English. It’s important for communication. But don’t flog them for speaking their mother tongue. That’s unacceptable. That’s the slavery mentality that Oyibo people stuffed our brains with.”

Yul Edochie

Yul Edochie questioned if a Chinese man or woman would never flog their child for speaking Chinese.

The actor further added that we shouldn’t make our fellow Africans feel inferior for being African. “If we’re not proud of who we are as Africans & where we come from, we’ll never know where we’re headed,” he added.

As children returned to school, Nigerian actress, Esther Ene sent a message to parents. She listed what parents should teach their children, telling them to sit with their children and explain there’s never a reason to make fun of others.

She admonished them to teach their children that there’s nothing wrong with wearing the same shoes or clothes every day, teach them not to exclude anyone for being different, explain to them that bullying hurts and not to spread negativity, and more, as she noted, it all begins at home.
