Naana Opoku-Agyemang Engages Ashanti Voters, Reiterates NDC’s Commitment to Women Empowerment

As part of her ongoing campaign tour of the Ashanti Region, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, Vice Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), held a strategic engagement with the Magajiyas, a Muslim-women group in the Asawase Constituency.

Her meeting with these influential women leaders underscored the NDC’s focus on policies that cater to the unique needs of women and youth in Ghana, particularly within Muslim communities. Professor Opoku-Agyemang expressed her heartfelt gratitude for their enthusiastic response to her invitation.

“I talked about the collective ideas that came from the people in putting together the NDC Manifesto and reiterated the NDC’s commitment to staying faithful to the expectations of the voter”.

In her address, she reinforced key aspects of the NDC manifesto that highlight the party’s commitment to addressing health and development challenges for women across the country.

She noted that the NDC’s policy agenda is not a product of isolated planning but rather a collective vision drawn from input gathered across diverse communities and sectors.

This inclusive approach, she emphasized, reflects the NDC’s dedication to meeting the expectations and needs of voters nationwide.

A central focus of her discussion was healthcare, particularly for Muslim women. Professor Opoku-Agyemang cited a commitment to training female doctors who would primarily serve female patients, catering to cultural sensitivities within the Muslim community.

She explained that this initiative is aligned with previous requests from the community for accessible and culturally respectful pre- and antenatal care.

“We are committed to ensuring that every Ghanaian woman has access to the healthcare she needs in an environment that respects her beliefs and values,” she remarked, noting that this initiative has been crafted to uphold dignity and inclusivity in healthcare delivery.

Education and Job Creation

Moving to education and employment, Professor Opoku-Agyemang outlined the NDC’s National Apprenticeship Programme designed to offer young people, especially those who cannot pursue traditional schooling, the skills they need for sustainable livelihoods.

She explained that this program is part of a broader NDC effort to address youth unemployment by empowering young people with practical, employable skills.

“This program will be instrumental in developing a new generation of skilled workers, who will drive our economy forward,” she stated, encouraging the youth to embrace this opportunity to become self-reliant.

Women’s Development Bank

Additionally, she discussed the NDC’s proposed Women’s Development Bank, which aims to address the unique financial challenges that Ghanaian women face, particularly in accessing capital for small-scale businesses.

This bank, she explained, would be a dedicated institution that provides affordable credit, financial literacy, and business support services tailored to the needs of women entrepreneurs.

“With this bank, we hope to break down financial barriers that hold many of our women back and empower them to grow and sustain their businesses,” she said.

In her closing remarks, Professor Opoku-Agyemang implored the gathered women to participate actively in the December 7 elections.

She urged them to support the NDC by placing their thumb on the space beside the umbrella symbol to help bring these policies to fruition.

“Your vote is not just for the NDC; it is a vote for the change we all want to see in our communities, a vote for the futures of our children, and a vote for the prosperity of women across the country”.

The meeting was attended by key NDC supporters and officials, including the Zongo Caucus Working Committee, the Zongo Youth, and regional and constituency executives led by Dr. Frank Amoakohene, the NDC’s Ashanti Regional Secretary.

This show of solidarity, with the presence of diverse supporters and representatives, underscored the NDC’s commitment to inclusive governance and community engagement as it moves towards the December polls.
