In the Instagram post’s caption, Abeiku explained the meaning of Sankofa, which means ‘go back and take it’ in Twi.

The Despite Media broadcaster noted that Sankofa was a Ghanaian philosophy that meant go back and get it. “Sankofa ” san “to return,” ko “to go,” and fa “to seek” in Ghanaian philosophy go back and get it…,” he wrote.

In the second part of the caption, Abeiku pledged his vote for Mr Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), in the upcoming general elections on Saturday, December 7, 2024.

He insinuated that once Americans have voted Donald Trump back into power, then Ghanaians could do the same. “John Dramani Mahama 🇦🇪✌🏾 vote 🗳️ for Change.”

Also, the National Communications Officer for the NDC, Sammy Gyamfi posted the same picture and asked Ghanaians what it meant.

Ghanaian Celebrities, Leaders React to Trump’s Win

As dawn broke over the United States, the world woke up to an unexpected headline: Donald Trump has won the U.S. election.

Social media, especially X (formerly Twitter), quickly became a melting pot of reactions as world leaders, celebrities, influencers, and citizens worldwide weighed in on what Trump’s win meant for America and the rest of the globe.

Following Trump’s anticipated win, some Ghanaian celebrities have shared their views on the highly anticipated US election results.

While some have reacted with humor, others appear indifferent to Trump’s victory.

Kumawood actor, Kwaku Manu offered his thoughts on the outcome of the US elections, likening the situation to Ghana’s upcoming 2024 elections.

Kwaku Manu observed that, in both countries, there is a former president seeking a second term against a current Vice President.

“If you look at this year’s elections in America, it is similar to Ghana’s own because the person who is winning the election, Trump, has been a president before. He went for one term and is returning, but his challenger is the current Vice-President.

“If you look at Ghana, John Mahama also went for one term and is contesting for another term like Trump, but Bawumia is also challenging as the vice-president, similar to what is happening in America.”

“Why are talking as if Kamala cares?? Africa got no friends sis..Let that sink in..!”

@wode_maya

“Some American celebrities said they’d leave the USA if Trump wins. He’s won oo.”

@thenanaaba

“They’ve started with the comparisons.”

Renowned New Patriotic Party (NPP) figure Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko posted on X, “My heart was with the woman of colour…” expressing his surprise.

Nana Kwame Bediako, a Ghanaian businessman and independent presidential candidate in Ghana’s December elections, congratulated President Trump on his win.

“@realDonaldTrump Even before you hit 270, I want to congratulate you on this historic victory. Two attempted assassinations, over 90 lawsuits, and you still triumphed. You are a man of steel, and that’s what the world needs at this point. Hopefully, we work together.”

Media strategist Chris Atadika commented on celebrity endorsements, tweeting, “Entertainment celebrity endorsements vs. corporate celebrity endorsements. Are there some lessons to learn from the U.S. 2024 elections? This calls for political marketing research.”

Prominent journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni also weighed in, saying, “Americans say Sankofa is not a taboo. What will Ghanaians say on December 7?” hinting at the possibility of a similar outcome in Ghana’s upcoming elections.
