NDC Urges Ghanaians to Choose Change in December 7 Election

With just one month until Ghana’s pivotal national elections, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has issued a powerful call for change, urging citizens to participate in what it describes as a defining moment for the nation’s future.

In a recent press release, Hon. Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, General Secretary of the NDC, outlined the party’s vision to steer Ghana away from what he termed as “mismanagement and decline” under the current New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration.

Fifi Kwetey emphasized the importance of the upcoming December 7 election, framing it as a choice between two starkly contrasting paths for Ghana.

“One that perpetuates the decline and mismanagement we witness today, and another that seeks to restore hope and set Ghana on a new path toward growth, dignity, and prosperity for all.”

The General Secretary described this election as a “moment for national renewal,” appealing to all citizens to “reclaim our beloved Ghana.”

Fifi Kwetey’s message comes at a time of widespread economic challenges, with rising unemployment and inflation impacting millions of Ghanaians. These economic hardships, according to the NDC, have hit the nation’s youth particularly hard.

“The youth of Ghana—the heartbeat of our future—have borne the brunt of this mess,” Fifi Kwetey said, calling for an urgent shift away from current policies that he argued have led to “unemployment, economic hardship, and shattered dreams.”

This situation, he claimed, has been exacerbated by the NPP’s economic policies, overseen by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who serves as head of the government’s Economic Management Team.

In a stinging critique, Fifi Kwetey argued that Bawumia and the current administration have “taken us down an unsustainable path marred by economic mismanagement, corruption, state plunder, abuse of power, and broken promises.”

In contrast, the NDC’s candidate, John Dramani Mahama, was presented as a beacon of stability and experience. Fifi Kwetey highlighted Mahama’s record as a former president, pointing to his achievements in infrastructure, social inclusion, economic growth, and support for underprivileged communities.

Describing Mahama as “a leader of integrity, vision, and unwavering commitment to the people,” the press release underscored Mahama’s deep understanding of the aspirations and challenges faced by everyday Ghanaians.

Mahama’s leadership, Fifi Kwetey contended, represents a genuine opportunity to reset Ghana’s trajectory. He promised that an NDC government under Mahama would “build a Ghana that works for all,” making job creation and economic development central to its agenda.

Key to this vision is the party’s proposed “24-hour economy” policy, which aims to create sustainable employment by encouraging economic activity around the clock and revitalizing local industries. “This is a solemn promise—a commitment we do not take lightly,” Kwetey affirmed.

Rallying the NDC Base and Beyond

Fifi Kwetey’s appeal was also directed at the NDC’s supporters, urging them to avoid complacency and to mobilize for what he characterized as a “noble mission.”

He called on NDC members, cadres, and sympathizers to work tirelessly to engage voters and reinforce the party’s message across the nation. “Let us harbor no complacency. Let’s keep our focus on the goal and stay true to the cause,” he encouraged, underscoring the importance of unity within the NDC’s ranks.

The press release also aimed to mobilize broader public support, reaching out to all Ghanaians who may feel disillusioned or frustrated with the current administration. Kwetey portrayed the election as an opportunity to join “true patriots, whose sole aim is to reclaim our destiny and guide Ghana back onto the path of prosperity.”

As election day approaches, the NDC’s message focuses on the importance of voter turnout and the symbol of the “Umbrella”—the party’s logo. Fifi Kwetey urged voters to “simply look for the Umbrella symbol and vote not only for John Mahama but also for every NDC MP candidate across the nation.”

This rallying cry is intended to foster solidarity and emphasize the party’s collective commitment to addressing the nation’s challenges through coordinated legislative and executive action.
