Kisa Gbekle Reveals Tragic Story Behind Disinterest in Alcohol, Clubbing

Kisa Gbekle

Ghanaian actress and film producer, Kisa Gbekle has disclosed she has never drunk alcohol, smoked any substance, or gone to a nightclub before.

She noted while this may surprise her critics who perceive her as a “bad” individual, she was well aware in her line of work, she had to compartmentalize her life.

“In my private life, apart from social media, I’m a different person,” she said, bemoaning the attacks she constantly suffered due to rumors about her undergoing cosmetic surgery, and for her suggestive dressing.

She wondered why the public does not talk about her being “a producer, I’m into football, I’m a good mother and all that”.

To underline how different her private life was compared to the public perception of her, she said, “I’m somebody who has never been to the club before, I don’t smoke, I don’t drink, I don’t stay out in the night.”

Were it not for her mother dropping local liquor (Akpeteshie) on her tongue with her finger, she revealed she would not have ever tasted alcohol.

She mentioned the advice her mother gave her when she relocated from the village to Accra, too.

“When I grew, started knowing myself, and taking care of myself was when I finally moved to Accra in 2011 after finishing high school. I was 18. The first thing my mom told me was not to go to the disco in Accra. This was because one of my uncles was hurt.

“After all, he was at a crowded place where they were drinking, people were fighting and he was killed by a cutlass that was swung. My mom always tells me not to stay out at night, or go to crowded places. If I don’t have anything to do there, I don’t go there.”

Kisa Gbekle emphasized she took this principle very seriously, stating she had stayed out late only once in 2024. “It was for Sista Afia’s birthday. I stayed out till about 11 PM or 12 AM,” she said.

Moreover, Kisa Gbekle became pregnant while she was with her mother in an undisclosed village at age 17.

The father of her child, she said “died”. “He was swimming when the sea took him away,” she explained.

The socialite said though she was willing to keep the pregnancy, she lost the baby out of frustration. Not only that, according to her, she wanted to take her own life because he [the father of the unborn child] died.

Kisa disclosed she was much bigger when she was younger compared to her current stature. “What is more, I didn’t know my age and I didn’t know I was 17,” she added.

In her defense, the filmmaker noted the documents on her birth were kept by her illiterate mother who did not give them much attention.

Thus, according to her, she was even surprised when she eventually saw her birth documents, discovering she was only 17.

The conversation was occasioned by Romeo asking if Kisa had any regrets in life. The actress maintained that she had no regrets in life, citing her teenage pregnancy.

However, she appeared to have made peace with the events of her teenage years. “If that guy hadn’t died I would have been in the village with three or four kids like my mates at the end of the day,” she observed.

Kisa Gbleke noted this proved while life may be extremely tough at some points, “with time, it’s going to work [out]”.

Actress On Why Most Female Celebrities Remain Unmarried

Kisa Gbekle opened up about why many female celebrities remain unmarried, sharing her thoughts on the challenges they face in relationships.

The actress explained that many men who approach them often have insincere intentions. She believes that these men typically want one thing and then move on once they get it. “Most men want to have you in bed, and that’s it,” she said.

Kisa added that although some men initially present themselves as genuinely interested, claiming to love them and be committed, their true intentions become clear once they get what they want.

“Some of them come like they are for real; they really do love you. They are available; they will be there to sleep with you for a while, and after they get you, they say this is all.

“The person loves the moment they come, but with time, everybody gets off. It is the one that has real intentions that stay; the ones that do not have real intentions don’t stay.”

Kisa went on to say that it is better to remain single than to waste time with men who are not serious. “That is why people are not settling,” she added.

While Kisa confesses to being a romantic at heart, she noted that her priorities have shifted since becoming a mother.

She also emphasized that any man who wishes to be with her must be financially stable. “So far as I’m loved right and treated well, I’m okay,” she noted, making it clear that she values respect, love, and financial stability in a partner.
