Access to affordable housing remains a critical challenge for public servants in Ghana, as rising costs and limited infrastructure continue to widen the accommodation gap.
Recognizing this pressing issue, the government has unveiled an ambitious housing project aimed at addressing the accommodation needs of public servants.
This initiative not only seeks to alleviate the burden of housing insecurity but also underscores the government’s commitment to enhancing the living standards of its workforce, fostering productivity, and promoting social equity.
The Vice President of Ghana and Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has lauded key achievements in housing, digitalization, and infrastructure development during a series of engagements.
His address emphasized the government’s commitment to providing sustainable solutions to housing challenges, enhancing efficiency in land administration, and revitalizing the creative arts sector.
The government has made significant progress in addressing the housing needs of security personnel, with over 1,000 housing units constructed in the Greater Accra Region alone.
These efforts aim to ensure safe and decent accommodation for members of the security services.
“Our government recognizes the critical role of our security services and has prioritized their housing needs. Over the past seven years, the Ghana Police Service has received 1,000 housing units to the Ghana Police Service in Tema, Kwabenya, and Tesano.’’

These projects, he noted, reflect the administration’s unwavering commitment to supporting the men and women tasked with maintaining the country’s safety and security.
In 2023, the government launched a Rent Assistance Scheme to alleviate the financial burdens associated with upfront rent payments under the program. He added; So far this scheme has supported 2,400 beneficiaries.”

The Saglemi Housing Project: Progress on Completion
The Vice President also addressed the stalled Saglemi housing project
A new public-private partnership (PPP) agreement has been established to bring the project back on track.
“Ladies and gentlemen, regarding the Saglemi housing project, the government has taken decisive steps to resolve the challenges surrounding its completion. Through executive approval and a rigorous procurement process, a developer has been selected to carry the project forward.”

This development marks a turning point for the long-delayed project, which has been a key issue in Ghana’s housing sector.
Moreover, during the commissioning of the corporate head office of the Lands Commission, the Vice President lauded the agency’s strides in several transformations. He emphasized;
“Today, with the aid of digitalization, the Lands Commission has been able to automate land title certificates, which reduces the potential errors that could arise from manual entries, thereby significantly enhancing accuracy and efficiency.”

Infrastructure for Creative Arts: A New Theater in the Works
The Vice President also inspected the ongoing construction of a multipurpose theater at the Trade Fair site in La.
The project, expected to be completed in eight months, aims to rejuvenate Ghana’s creative arts sector.
According to Dr. Bawumia, this facility will provide a much-needed boost to the nation’s struggling creative arts sector.
The theater is part of a broader strategy to develop infrastructure that supports cultural and artistic expression while contributing to economic growth.
The Vice President’s comprehensive update highlighted the government’s commitment to addressing critical challenges facing Ghana’s Public sector as well as the welfare of Ghanaians.
From providing housing for security personnel to advancing the stalled Saglemi project, implementing rent assistance programs, and modernizing land administration, the administration’s efforts showcase a forward-looking approach to national development.
Meanwhile, as the multipurpose theater nears completion, the nation’s creative arts sector stands to gain from enhanced facilities, underscoring the government’s recognition of culture as a vital component of progress.
