The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has strongly condemned the alleged kidnapping of the Emirates Airlines Airport Manager, Sylvia Patience Baah, by operatives of Ghana’s National Security.

In a statement issued by the party’s Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, the NDC described the incident as a grave affront to Ghana’s reputation on the international stage.

The party expressed concern over the implications of such an act, stating that it has caused significant embarrassment to the nation.

According to the NDC, this alleged act of state-sanctioned terror reinforces their belief that the safety and freedoms of citizens and residents in Ghana are increasingly under threat,  under the current New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration.

“The National Democratic Congress (NDC), has followed keenly recent reports of the kidnapping of Madam Sylvia Patience Baah, the Emirates Airlines Airport Manager in Accra, by operatives of the National Security Secretariat and the National Investigations Bureau (NIB).

“Madam Sylvia Baah was said to have been abducted at the entrance to her residence in Accra on 21st November 2024, blindfolded, handcuffed and bundled into an unknown vehicle by a team of hoodlums belonging to the National Security and National Investigations Bureau”.

The NDC further revealed that the alleged victim, Sylvia Patience Baah, reportedly endured severe mistreatment at the hands of her abductors.

According to the party, she was forcibly taken and subjected to a traumatic ordeal, including being manhandled and driven for over two hours to an undisclosed location.

The NDC also noted that she was allegedly detained for nearly 24 hours, during which she was threatened and later abandoned in a bush near Ashaiman.

The NDC claimed that the abduction of Madam Sylvia Baah has been linked to three individuals: Kwabena Adu-Boahene, the Director General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB); Benjamin Ansah, the Operations Director of the NSB; and one Rashida Saani Nasamu, described in reports as a “powerful waakye seller”.

According to the party, the NSB is an agency under the National Security Council, adding further gravity to the alleged involvement of state actors in this disturbing incident.

Furthermore, the NDC alleged that the agents of the National Signals Bureau (NSB) reportedly had an altercation with Madam Sylvia Baah in the course of her professional duties.

According to the party, her subsequent abduction is perceived as an act of retaliation for challenging or “stepping on the toes” of these individuals and other influential figures within the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia-led NPP government.

The NDC described this alleged retributive action as indicative of an abuse of power and a troubling misuse of state security apparatus.

“This incident, which has outraged many Ghanaians, has once again highlighted the abuse and misuse of power under the lawless Akufo-Addo/Bawumia NPP government.

“For eight (8) years, Ghanaians have witnessed a reign of terror in which certain miscreants within the national security apparatus, have continuously taken the law into their own hands to unleash state-sponsored terrorism on innocent civilians”.

National Democratic Congress (NDC)

The NDC unequivocally condemned what it described as brazen impunity and blatant lawlessness exhibited by individuals purported to be officers of law enforcement and state security.

The party called on the Inspector-General of Police to swiftly launch a thorough investigation into the incident. It further demanded an immediate, impartial, and transparent inquiry that would lead to the arrest and prosecution of all individuals involved in this egregious act.

The NDC emphasized that holding the perpetrators accountable is essential to ensuring justice and deterring similar incidents in the future.

“In the next ten (10) days, Ghanaians will be voting for change, to bring back into office the Nation-Builder, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, and the NDC”.

The opposition emphasized that this shift would reestablish social justice and uphold the rule of law in Ghana.

Most importantly, the NDC pledged to rebuild the trust of Ghanaians in law enforcement agencies and ensure the safety and security of every citizen.
