Safo Newman

Budding musician, Safo Newman has opened up about his unconventional path into the teaching profession.

Despite not being a trained educator, Safo’s transition into teaching was born out of necessity after struggling to secure a job in his field of study.

As a graduate of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) with a degree in Construction Technology and Management, he initially envisioned a career in the construction industry.

However, he revealed that after his national service, he made numerous attempts to secure a job, all of which proved futile.

It was then the Cosmos Basic School in Lapaz became his savior when he was offered a job as a career technology (formerly pre-tech skills) teacher.

He humorously revealed it is a smooth experience and the pupils regard him in spite of his smallish stature.

According to him, the job sustained him and transformed his living conditions in Accra.

Safo Newman is a graduate of  T.I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School (TI Amass), where he was a senior to now-renowned musician, Gyakie.

Despite the challenges, his teaching journey has allowed him to contribute meaningfully to shaping young minds while navigating his own professional path.

Though he is yet to land a job in construction technology, he habors no regrets about the choice of course he studied at the tertiary level.

Safo Newman Opens Up on Studio Session With Sarkodie

Nine months after his studio session with Sarkodie went viral, Safo Newman revealed that the meeting was musically unproductive.

The duo met at Sarkodie’s studio in February 2024 after Safo Newman expressed a desire to personally thank the rapper for his acknowledgment.

“Sarkodie tweeted that I was original, liked my style, and looked forward to working with me. I was grateful and thanked him in his DM, but I felt it wasn’t enough. So, I asked if I could meet him personally to express my appreciation.”

Following their meeting, rumors spread that they had recorded an industry-changing banger set to be released later this year.

However, Safo disappointed anticipating fans by stating that no collaboration of that sort was ever recorded.

He emphatically clarified that their meeting was purely conversational, and “nothing happened” in terms of music.

When asked if his denial was to please Sarkodie, who is known for his strict policy of keeping collaborations under wraps until official announcements, Safo Newman reiterated that there is no unreleased project being held back.

Obviously disappointed, the ‘Akokoa’ hitmaker remains optimistic that, at the right time, Sarkodie will bless him with a verse.

Meanwhile, Safo Newman revealed that he has received suggestions from people to use illicit substances which will boost his confidence on stage.

According to the ‘Akokoa’ hitmaker, regardless of the advice from these people, he is unyielding to anything that will derail him from who he is.

“People have actually recommended that I should do some of these things [drugs] so that I will go wild [on stage]. I won’t be doing that. I don’t think I can do that.”

He made this comment while talking about people’s criticism of his calmness on stage.

Safo noted that a lot of people have issues with his introverted nature because they fail to acknowledge differences in people’s temperaments.

After he shot into the limelight with his ‘Akokoa’ song earlier this year, Safo has been heavily criticized for his sense of fashion and dullness on stage while performing.

He has acknowledged that he is working to improve on all weaknesses as he continues to produce music that will not only excite people to dance but to feed their minds with thought-provoking content.

Safo Newman who has other songs such as Miss Issabela, Sorrow Fly, March Past, and All the Way, is currently out with a peace song titled ‘NPP, NDC’.
