Nigerian singer, Raoul John Njeng-Njeng, popularly known as Skales, has slammed his colleagues who ignore the local media.

Established Nigerian artists have been ditching local media houses for foreign platforms in recent years.

Reacting to the ugly trend, Skales described the actions of those who ignored the local media as “crazy.”

“Any artiste that ignores the local media is really crazy because this is our own. Tearing down our own to go build foreigners’ own. Foreigners that don’t care about us.

“Whether my colleagues like it or not, the local media contributed to their growth. If they didn’t help them, the foreign media they are running to today wouldn’t have known them.”

Skales

He also said some of his colleagues who are now publicly ditching afrobeats after benefiting from the genre are “ungrateful.” Skales added, “Our artists need to be careful not to tear down what built us because we are trying to impress the world.”

The famous singer also opined that he played a role in inspiring his fellow musician, Burna Boy.

Skales explained that Burna Boy had not achieved a major hit song before they collaborated on “Temper Remix” in 2017.

While he acknowledged that Burna Boy has also been a source of inspiration for him, Skales emphasized the importance of collaboration in the music industry to support and uplift one another.

“I inspired Burna Boy. He will agree with me. So, nobody helps anybody. We probably admire ourselves and we decide to work together. As of then, Burna Boy had no hot song before I featured him on ‘Temper Remix.’

“It was after our collaboration that he started excelling. I’m not trying to take credit for his success but he has inspired me over the years and I believe I inspired him at a point, too.”

Skales Recounts Social Media Fallout With Wizkid

Skales claimed that his colleague and former record label mate, Wizkid, never liked him.

He claimed that he has always felt repelling energy from the ‘Starboy.’

The ‘Shake Body’ crooner recounted his social media fallout with Wizkid years ago.

It would be recalled that the two had blasted each other on the micro-blogging platform, Twitter, now X in 2015.

The feud had started when, during a question and answer with fans on X, a netizen asked when he and Wizkid would release a song together. Skales had said, at the time, that Wizkid was too busy for him.

Clarifying his statement, Skales who claims to be Burna Boy’s inspiration said his comments about Wizkid were meant as a joke but his colleague had misinterpreted it.

“I have always felt that Wizkid didn’t like me. I don’t know why but there were occasions where he showed his dislike for me. If you go back and check our social media fallout, I think I was doing a ‘question-and-answer’ session on Twitter and somebody said, ‘What’s up with your guy Wiz?’ And jokingly, I said, ‘My brother Wiz does not have my time anymore.’

“From there, Wizkid started insulting me, my father, and my mother. That’s to show you that he probably had me in mind. He said I wear fake jewelry. That time, I wasn’t the one replying, it was my ex-girlfriend.”

Skales

The artist mentioned that he “picks” his battles, stating that when he knows that people won’t believe him, he doesn’t need to fight back.

“Because whatever I say, they are going to say I am jealous. They are going to say I am envious of Wizkid’s success. And that was the story that was going around. I sat down recently and said, ‘This guy [Wizkid] really doesn’t like me.’ I have tried to make peace with him but he was adamant. He didn’t like me, I can tell you for a fact.”
