The Fisher Boy Project Empowers Ghanaian Students to Fight Child Trafficking

The Fisher Boy project empowers Ghanaian students to fight child trafficking

The Ghana Alliance for Vulnerable Children (GAVC) has successfully concluded a groundbreaking essay competition as part of its Fisher Boy Project, an initiative aimed at raising awareness about child trafficking and promoting adoption care in Ghana.

Coordinated by Miss Jechobed Azumah, the competition brought together junior and senior high school students across the country, inspiring them to tackle critical issues with creativity and innovation through essay writing.

With sponsorship from The Fisher Boy author Darren Sapp, Dr Francis Osei and generous donors from the United States and Ghana, the contest attracted over 300 submissions.

Using the Fisher Boy book as the foundation, students presented innovative, practical ideas on eradicating child trafficking, fostering adoption care and supporting rescued children and orphans.

The initiative showcased the intelligence and compassion of Ghanaian youth, whose ideas could play a transformative role in addressing these pressing societal challenges on child trafficking.

The competition awarded top participants with cash prizes, certificates and laptops in recognition of their exceptional contributions. These awards symbolize not only acknowledgement of their hard work but also an investment in their potentials as change makers of tomorrow.

“Every child deserves a mom and a dad to go to and that is why we need your voice. One of the main reasons why we did this contest was to promote reading in Ghana and spread the message of the plight of child trafficking and adoption across” said the author of The Fisher Boy, Darren Sapp. The passion these students showed reminds us that, everyone has a role to play in ensuring every child experiences love, peace and happiness.

Ghana Alliance for Vulnerable Children (GAVC) remains committed to its mission of advocating for vulnerable children and invites individuals, students, organizations and communities to join in the fight against child trafficking.

The Fisher Boy project continues to shine as a beacon of hope, demonstrating how education and awareness can empower communities to protect their vulnerable ones.
