Dela Sky Urges NDC Leadership to Curb Unlawful Raids by Supporters

NDC government begins gathering dissatisfaction

NDC

Lawyer and media practitioner Richard Dela Sky has called on the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to assert its authority and restore order among its alleged loyalists.

He condemned the ongoing raids on public offices, which he said are driven solely by the expectation of a change in government.

According to Dela Sky, these actions amount to criminal behavior and set a dangerous precedent that poses a threat to Ghana’s democratic stability.

He stressed that such conduct is unacceptable and urged the NDC leadership to act swiftly to prevent further breaches of public order.

“Those who campaigned on the promise of change from old ways of doing things now bear the responsibility to demonstrate leadership that embodies genuine transformation and respect for democratic and private institutions.

“The fact that previous political transitions were marred by similar lawless acts does not justify their repetition in our current democratic dispensation”.

Richard Dela Sky

Dela Sky emphasized that Ghana’s political maturity requires citizens to learn from past mistakes rather than repeat them.

He stressed that every political transition should serve as an opportunity to strengthen the country’s democratic principles, not undermine them.

According to him, peaceful transfers of power should mark progress in governance and respect for the rule of law, not create avenues for chaos and lawlessness.

Sky urged political leaders and citizens alike to prioritize national stability over partisan interests, noting that Ghana’s reputation as a beacon of democracy in Africa depends on maintaining high standards during transitions.

Dela Sky Calls for Stronger Police Action to Ensure Democracy

Furthermore, Richard Dela Sky commended the Ghana Police Service for their swift and effective response to several of the reported incidents.

He highlighted this as proof of the police’s capacity to maintain law and order when properly mobilized.

However, Dela Sky stressed that reactive measures alone are insufficient. According to him, more decisive and proactive interventions are needed to prevent such unlawful acts from occurring in the first place.

He urged the police to adopt a zero-tolerance approach toward politically motivated disturbances, emphasizing that sustained order and stability are essential for a peaceful political transition and the protection of Ghana’s democratic integrity.

“The Police Service maintains its constitutional obligation to assert its authority and restore sanity, regardless of the political climate. Their duty to maintain law and order is not discretionary—it is absolute and unwavering.

“The Police cannot, and must not, be perceived as abdicating their fundamental responsibility to protect public institutions and maintain order…”

Accordingly, he warned that if the police are perceived as neglecting their responsibility to uphold law and order, it could have far-reaching consequences for Ghana’s democratic stability.

Sky emphasized that the legitimacy of democratic governance is built on the rule of law and the impartial enforcement of justice.

When the police fail to act decisively against acts of lawlessness, it risks eroding public trust, emboldening wrongdoers, and undermining the very fabric of the nation’s democracy.

Such inaction, he argued, could set a dangerous precedent, normalizing political violence and weakening the pillars of accountability and good governance.

He emphasized that, beyond the role of the police, the President of Ghana has a fundamental duty to ensure peace and order across the entire nation.

This duty, Dela Sky stressed, is non-negotiable and cannot be abandoned or deferred. Failure to fulfill this obligation could create a power vacuum, embolden lawbreakers, and threaten the overall security of the country.

He called on the President to exercise firm leadership by taking swift and decisive action to restore order and prevent further acts of lawlessness. “It is a duty that must be fulfilled to all citizens and institutions”.
