 Lawyer Sosu Celebrates Victory, Remains Optimistic to Task Ahead

Hon. Francis-Xavier Sosu Esq. Member of Parliament-Elect for the Madina Constituency

The Member of Parliament-Elect for the Madina Constituency, Hon. Francis-Xavier Sosu Esq. has attributed his electoral victory in 2024 to a combination of divine grace, community engagement, and strategic vigilance.

In a detailed reflection, he shared his approach to leadership, electoral challenges, and future aspirations for his constituency.

Hon. Sosu began by emphasizing the role of divine intervention in his victory, stating;

“There is grace for the race, which is part of my single that I released recently, that God has given us sufficient grace for this race. The biggest thanks go to Him first.”

He also highlighted the importance of staying connected with constituents, maintaining trust, and implementing impactful social interventions.

Hon. Sosu cited various initiatives such as job creation programs, educational projects like the Best Teacher Awards, and religious inclusivity through his Islam Project. This project, led by senior imams, has fostered interfaith harmony in Madina.

“In 2020, we had 41 polling stations. I won 40, while Honorable Boniface won 1. But this time around, the polling stations [increased] to 43, and we won all of them with really huge margins.”

Hon. Sosu outlined his vision for representation rooted in humility and service. He emphasizes the need to prioritize the interests of Madina’s constituents both in Parliament and through government policies. He confidently assures;

“The youth in Madina are going to be beneficiaries of the 24-hour economy policy of His Excellency John Dramani Mahama. Programs like the National Vocational Apprenticeship Program will also directly benefit them.”

Through initiatives like the Madina Job Center, which has already impacted 7,000 individuals, Hon. Sosu plans to capitalize on national programs to create further employment opportunities.

The rapid population growth in Madina, from 110,000 a decade ago to over 250,000 today, has placed immense pressure on social amenities and infrastructure. Hon. Sosu laments the lack of significant progress during the last administration.

“Our inner roads are completely destroyed. Storm drains have seen no work at all, and social amenities have not developed to match the population growth.”

However, he remained optimistic about future interventions under an NDC government. Key projects include modernizing the Madina market and rebuilding the Pantang Hospital into a first-class mental health facility, which would safeguard its lands and create jobs.

 He also highlighted plans for road rehabilitation in areas such as Oyarifa, Pantang, and Nyamekrom.

“The next administration will focus on fiscal infrastructure. Through my constant engagement, I believe Madina will receive the attention it deserves.”

Ensuring Electoral Vigilance and Transparency

Reflecting on Election Day, Hon. Sosu recalled the delays and irregularities at the coalition center, raising concerns about the potential for manipulation:

“We need to improve our electoral system such that coalition shouldn’t take more than 48 hours. These delays are the reasons why people with evil intentions may manipulate the system.”

Hon. Sosu recounted instances of vigilance by his team, who uncovered suspicious activities, including the presence of individuals dressed as soldiers and alleged ballot box tampering. He worked closely with local police to neutralize these threats.

“We don’t want to cheat anybody, but we also won’t sit down for someone to rob us of our victory. That vigilance was a major element that won this election massively for the NDC.”

Looking ahead, Hon. Sosu described the upcoming NDC-led Parliament as a platform to reset Ghana and address longstanding national challenges. He noted;

“The next Parliament will carefully look at what Ghanaians want and do exactly that. We will undo all the evil that had been unleashed on the country.”

Hon. Sosu also emphasized the importance of continuing constitutional reforms initiated by the late President John Atta Mills, such as abolishing the death penalty.

“By legislative intervention, even without a referendum, a number of proposals in the Constitutional Review Commission’s report can be carried out by this Parliament.”

Key areas of focus include decoupling the Ministry of Justice from the Attorney General’s Department to improve judicial independence and establishing a national development plan free from political interference.

He envisioned a transformative Madina through strategic partnerships stating;

“I believe that the next four years will bring significant fiscal infrastructure to Madina. Through constant engagement with the NDC administration, I am confident we can deliver lasting change.”

As Hon. Sosu prepares to serve his constituency, he reiterates his dedication to humility, service, and the fear of God, ensuring that the people of Madina are at the center of his work.
