NDC Will Battle EC’S Re-collation Till Casket – Dr. Tanko Computer

Dr. Tanko Rashid Computer Deputy Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC)

The Director of Elections and IT of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Tanko Rashid computer has expressed his party’s dissatisfaction following the Electoral Commission’s (EC) re-collation exercise and declaration. His remarks underscored the NDC’s firm commitment to legality and due process. while, the NDC had taken the 4 outstanding seats, they are disputing against the 3 outstanding seats aiming to win the additional 3 seats as well.

In his statement, Dr. Tanko Rashid emphasized the party’s rejection of any electoral misconduct, asserting that the NDC would not be complicit in any form of illegality in the re-collation exercise of the 3 outstanding seats. He emphasized;

“We are not going to allow this. We have observed this. I’ve been informed appropriately by my national chairman, the general secretary, my boss, Dr. Omane Boamah to assure the nation that the NDC is not part of this illegality and will not be part of it and will not recognize anything coming up from it.”

Dr. Tanko’s strong words highlighted the party’s readiness to challenge any electoral anomalies through legal avenues. He charged; “We’ll make sure that the wrongs going on here will be corrected at the legal process.”

He further highlighted that the NDC has served the EC a legal statement indicating why they would not accept the re-collation results of some constituencies.

He further emphasized the party’s unwavering stance to persevere against any perceived electoral injustices despite the outcomes. He vehemently stated; “We’ll battle it till casket.”

However, despite the contentious circumstances, MP -elect for Okaikwi Central acknowledged the peaceful nature of the re-collation exercise and the subsequent declaration by the EC. He expressed gratitude to the Almighty for the calm proceedings. He remarked;

“We had to follow due process, and we always believe that the numbers were not going to change.’’

This statement reflected the NPP’S adherence to due process and its appreciation for the orderly conduct of the re-collation.

Following the re-collation exercise, the Electoral Commission declared Honorable Patrick Boamah as the winner with a total of 21,099 votes.

Hon. Patrick Boamah, representing the New Patriotic Party (NPP), secured the parliamentary seat by a significant margin over his closest rival, Baba Sadiq of the NDC, who garnered 19,368 votes.

The official declaration by the EC affirmed Hon. Boamah’s position as the MP-elect, reflecting the will of the electorate in Okaikwei Central.

Acceptance of the Outcome, the consequences of Due Process

While Hon. Patrick Boamah’s statement acknowledged the peaceful nature of the recollation process and the final declaration. His remarks highlighted his readiness to serve the constituents of Okaikwei Central with the mandate given by the voters.

The declaration marked the conclusion of the electoral process for Okaikwei Central, with Hon. Boamah eager to assume his role in the 9th Parliament.

Moreover, the statements made by Dr. Tanko Rashid and Hon. Patrick Boamah during and after the EC’s re-collation exercise reveal the differing perspectives on the electoral process.

Dr. Tanko’s condemnation of electoral irregularities underscores the NDC’s commitment to legal rectification.

Both narratives reflect the critical role of adherence to due process and the cumbersome instances involving the resolution of electoral disputes in Ghana.
