Titi-Ofei Writes to President-Elect Mahama, Urges Purposeful Leadership

President John Dramani Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has reiterated his commitment to justice, peace, quality education, healthcare, accountability, and economic revitalization, outlining a transformative agenda to address Ghana’s pressing challenges.

Speaking at the 92nd Annual National Convention of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission, the President underscored his resolve to strengthen governance systems, promote religious harmony, and uplift the nation’s socio-economic landscape.

In a speech themed around the values of justice and fairness, Mahama emphasized the critical need for impartiality in governance. He described justice as the “moral compass” that must guide the nation.

“Justice is a moral compass that must guide our every decision, every law, and every interaction in our nation. To this end, the new NDC administration is reasonably committed to strengthening our judicial independence and address the systemic inequalities that currently exist.

I can assure you that this administraton will work tirelessly to ensure that every Ghanaian regardless of your status or background is treated with dignity and afforded equal protection under the law”.

To strengthen judicial independence and address systemic inequalities, President Mahama reiterated the NDC administration’s plans to renew the stalled Constitutional Review Commission.

President Mahama announced the establishment of a planning committee to organize a National Constitutional Review Validation Conference.  “This conference will achieve a broad consensus on the way forward for constitutional amendments,” he stated.

Peace and Religious Harmony

President Mahama invoked the teachings of Prophet Mohammed (PBUH), calling peace a “divine blessing of God” that requires collective effort. The NDC government, he promised, would prioritize dialogue and consensus-building over unilateral decision-making.

He applauded the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission’s motto, “Love for all, hatred for none,” as an inspiration for fostering religious harmony and unity. “We shall engage leaders across all faiths to promote mutual understanding and ensure peace prevails in our communities,” he added.

Economic Revitalization and Fiscal Transparency

Describing economic revitalization as an immediate priority, President Mahama laid out homegrown fiscal plans to stabilize inflation, strengthen the cedi, and implement transparent fiscal policies.

He criticized burdensome taxes, pledging their removal, and outlined a strategy to integrate the informal sector into the tax net for equitable revenue sharing.

“As I said in my inaugural speech, this is going to be our immediate priority. How to stabilize our economy, bring down inflation, stabilize our currency and run the economy in a transparent and accountable manner.”

A key highlight of his economic plan is the introduction of a “24-hour economy policy,” modeled on global success stories. President Mahama noted, “This transformative initiative will create sustainable jobs, modernise our economy, and unlock Ghana’s growth potential.”

Education to Empower Ghana’s Youth, Healthcare and Gender Equity

Acknowledging education as the cornerstone of national progress, President Mahama outlined an ambitious agenda to enhance access and quality across all levels.

While pledging to sustain and enhance the Free SHS policy, he promised to improve basic education, introduce free tuition for first-year students in public tertiary institutions and complete abandoned e-block projects.

“These initiatives will empower our youth with the skills needed to excel in a rapidly changing world. We shall emphasise technical vocational education and training so that we can produce the skilled manpower that is needed for business and industry”.

President Mahama also announced plans for a National Education Review Conference to assess the entire educational system.

This conference he noted will review the country’s educational system right from kindergarten through the basic to secondary to tertiary degree education to identify what the hindrances to quality education are at each level of the educational system.

He hopes the conference will come out with new ideas in order to provide the outcomes that the country needs to improve the quality of education.

President Mahama also promised significant investments in healthcare infrastructure and personnel to ensure accessible quality care.  He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to gender equity, vowing to break the “concrete ceiling” for women in leadership.

Together with Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, he pledged to create opportunities for women to aspire to the highest offices, including the presidency.

Good Governance and Accountability

Lastly, President Mahama pledged to restore public trust through ethical leadership and stringent accountability measures.

Key initiatives include passing a Code of Conduct Bill for public officers, conducting comprehensive audits of state-owned enterprises, and operationalizing “Operation Recover All the Loot” (ORAL) to investigate and recover misappropriated public assets.

“We will strengthen accountability institutions to ensure public trust is restored and corruption is curbed,” he asserted.

Closing his address, President Mahama urged the Ahmadiyya Muslim community to continue its vital contributions to education, healthcare, and social services.  “Together, we can overcome obstacles and create a brighter future for all,” he declared.

Expressing gratitude to the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission for its steadfast commitment to national development, President Mahama called on all Ghanaians to unite behind the reset agenda for justice, peace, and progress.
