Parliament of Ghana

The Parliament of Ghana has announced to the general public that access to the Committee Room and the precincts of Parliament during the ongoing vetting of ministerial nominees will be strictly regulated.

According to a statement signed by David Sebastian Damoah, Director of Media Relations of Parliament, only individuals holding official invitation cards or possessing the appropriate accreditation will be permitted entry.

This measure aims to ensure an orderly and secure environment for the vetting process, maintaining the decorum and operational efficiency required for such a critical national exercise.

“The Appointments Committee of Parliament has commenced a public hearing to vet the nominees of HE the President, John Druuani Mahama. This follows the nomination of persons for consideration and approval by Parliament as Ministers of State and Regional Ministers in accordance with Article 78(1) of the 1992 Constitution”.

Parliament further reiterated its commitment to ensuring the highest standards of security and safety for its Members, staff, and the general public during the ongoing vetting process for ministerial nominees.

Recognizing the importance of maintaining order and protecting all participants, Parliament has taken the decision to limit physical access to the venue of the proceedings.

Parliament also indicated that it seeks to minimize potential disruptions and enhance operational efficiency, ensuring that the vetting process remains focused and productive by restricting access.

Additionally, this decision underscores the institution’s dedication to safeguarding the integrity of its proceedings while prioritizing the well-being of everyone involved.

Such a proactive approach reflects Parliament’s broader responsibility to uphold security, order, and transparency in the conduct of its duties.

Parliament Commends Public Interest in Ministerial Vetting

Furthermore, Parliament acknowledged and expressed gratitude for the significant public interest generated by the ongoing proceedings of the Appointments Committee.

According to the statement, this enthusiasm is evident in the substantial number of individuals who have visited Parliament in person to observe the vetting process.

“Parliament has granted access to a number of Media Houses to broadcast the proceedings live and therefore, encourages the public to avail themselves of that opportunity to witness the proceedings of the Appointment Committee”.

Parliament also noted that the strong public engagement highlights the importance of the vetting process to Ghanaians and their desire to stay informed about the selection and confirmation of ministerial nominees.

Parliament indicated that it recognizes this level of public participation as a testament to the growing democratic consciousness among citizens and their commitment to holding leadership accountable.

In light of this, Parliament reaffirmed its dedication to ensuring that the proceedings remain accessible to the public through alternative means, such as live broadcasts and media updates, to accommodate those who cannot physically attend.

According to the statement, this approach ensures transparency while maintaining order and security at the venue.

Meanwhile, Parliament emphasized its reliance on the continued cooperation and understanding of the general public as it navigates and concludes the vetting process for ministerial nominees.

Recognizing the importance of the public’s role in fostering transparency and accountability, Parliament called for patience and support to ensure the process is conducted smoothly and efficiently.

This collaborative spirit, Parliament noted, is essential in upholding the integrity of the vetting process, which serves as a cornerstone of Ghana’s democratic governance.

Parliament also reassured the public that every effort is being made to maintain high standards of scrutiny during the vetting, ultimately aiming to appoint individuals who are not only competent but also capable of contributing meaningfully to national development.

Parliament expressed confidence that with the public’s backing, the Appointments Committee would be able to fulfill its mandate effectively, paving the way for a transparent and credible outcome that aligns with the expectations of the people.
