NDC Upper-Denkyira East Defends Anthony Sarpong Acting GRA Commissioner-General’s Appointment

Anthony Kwasi Sarpong as the Acting Commissioner General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA)

The National Democratic Congress in the Upper Denkyira East Constituency has called on party members nationwide to rally behind the appointment of Anthony Kwasi Sarpong as the Acting Commissioner General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).

The Constituency Secretary of the party, Isaac Bofah addressing the press today, described the decision as a testament to President John Dramani Mahama’s commitment to competent leadership while urging an end to divisive rhetoric.

Mr Bofah began by extending heartfelt appreciation, on behalf of the Constituency Chairman, Member of Parliament Hon. Lawyer Emelia Ankomah, and the leadership of Upper Denkyira East, to the President for this strategic appointment.

He highlighted the pride and joy within the constituency at seeing one of their own elevated to such a pivotal role. “This decision underscores the President’s unwavering commitment to promoting capable leadership that will advance the nation’s progress,” he stated.

In response to claims that Anthony Kwasi Sarpong is not a party member or has not supported the party, Mr Bofah categorically dismissed these assertions as baseless and unfounded.

He emphasized the appointee’s longstanding and quiet contributions to the party’s growth and the constituency’s development.

“In Upper Denkyira East Constituency, we have witnessed firsthand the appointee’s consistent and significant contributions to the growth of our party and the development of our community.

“Over the years, he has supported party activities, funded key initiatives, and worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure the well-being of the party and its members.

He noted that while Mr Sarpong’s efforts may not have been publicized, they have been impactful and invaluable, with full acknowledgment from the Constituency Chairman, MP Hon. Lawyer Emelia Ankomah, and other leaders.

The Constituency Secretary urged all party members to refrain from divisive comments that threaten party cohesion.  He called for nationwide support for the Acting Commissioner General, emphasizing that his success would enhance not only the party’s reputation but also the integrity of Ghana’s institutions.

“As a party, we must remain united and focused on supporting the President’s transformational agenda. Let us not allow baseless allegations to distract us from the collective goal of building a stronger party and a better Ghana.”

Appeal for Future Appointments

Beyond addressing current concerns, Mr Bofah appealed to the President to continue recognizing hardworking individuals from the constituency for key appointments.

He made a special case for Hon. Lawyer Emelia Ankomah, the MP for Upper Denkyira East, highlighting her exceptional dedication and leadership. “Her commitment to the constituency and the party is unmatched, and her leadership inspires confidence in all of us,” he said.

In closing, Mr Bofah reiterated the constituency’s unwavering support for Anthony Kwasi Sarpong and the President’s leadership.

He urged all party members to come together to champion development within the constituency, strengthen party unity, and contribute to the nation’s progress.

The press conference ended with a resolute call for unity and collaboration, as the Upper Denkyira East Constituency pledged to stand firmly behind the new Acting Commissioner General and other appointees from their ranks.
