The Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has directed security agencies to launch thorough investigations into two critical security incidents: disruption of the Council of State Election and mob action in Offinso that have rocked the region in recent days.
In a strongly worded statement dated February 12, 2025, the Minister assured the public of swift and decisive action to uphold law and order.
The first incident, which occurred on February 11, 2025, involved the disruption of the voting process for the Council of State elections at the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council (RCC).
Media reports indicated that some assailants forcefully entered the venue, overturning tables, destroying ballot boxes, and scattering voting materials, compelling Electoral Commission (EC) officials to suspend the process.
The unrest is believed to have been triggered by the unexpected defeat of candidate Yaw Owusu Obimpeh, who was widely considered a frontrunner.
Supporters, reportedly aggrieved by the outcome, allegedly instigated the violence, demanding a review of the results.
According to the Minister, this act of interference threatens Ghana’s democratic principles and will not be tolerated.
Consequently, he has instructed the Ghana Police Service and National Security to identify and apprehend those responsible, emphasizing that justice must prevail.

Offinso Mob Action
In a separate development, reports indicate that in the early hours of February 12, 2025, a group of youth in Offinso attempted to prevent the local Chief from performing traditional rites related to Awukudae.
This act of defiance led to heightened tensions in the area. The Minister, in his statement, indicated that he has tasked the police with restoring law and order while ensuring that those involved in the confrontation face appropriate legal action.
Hon. Dr Amoakohene also called on all individuals with relevant information concerning these incidents to cooperate fully with security agencies. He assured residents that investigations would be evidence-based, thorough, and fair.
The Minister further urged the people of the Ashanti Region to remain calm, respect the rule of law, and work collectively to maintain peace and stability.
He reiterated the unwavering commitment of security services to ensuring the safety and protection of all citizens while taking proactive measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
As the investigations unfold, the people of the Ashanti Region await the outcomes, with expectations of swift justice and stronger measures to safeguard the region’s democratic and traditional processes.
