The 24-Hour Economy Programme is an integral part of the Government of Ghana’s broader vision to maximize economic output by encouraging businesses to operate beyond traditional working hours.

A key player in this transformative agenda is the Ghana National Gas Company (Ghana Gas), which is poised to play a pivotal role in achieving the programme’s objectives.

The initiative seeks to stimulate industrial growth, increase employment opportunities, and enhance the competitiveness of Ghana’s economy in the global market.

The Acting Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Gas, Ing. Dr. Robert Kofi Lartey, has expressed the company’s firm commitment to driving the 24-hour economy agenda.

He emphasized that Ghana Gas will leverage its facilities and expertise to support critical sectors such as agro-processing, transportation, construction, and manufacturing services.

“Ghana Gas has an important role to play in helping the President realize his vision of a 24-hour economy.

“We will ensure that our gas facilities and operations contribute to this national agenda by providing safe, reliable, and continuous energy supply.”

Ing. Dr. Robert Kofi Lartey, Acting Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Gas

He further highlighted that the constant supply of gas to industries and key sectors would be a cornerstone in the government’s efforts to transform Ghana into an economy that thrives around the clock.

Dr. Lartey emphasized the importance of operating and transporting gas to customers in a safe and reliable manner.

For industries such as cocoa processing in agriculture, where production needs to operate without interruptions, a steady supply of energy is essential.

“Gas is crucial to power the country’s industries and transportation systems.”

“We understand the need for constant and uninterrupted gas supply, whether for cocoa processors in agriculture or for the transportation sector, including railways, which are vital for a 24-hour economy.”

The 24-Hour Economy Programme is a cornerstone of the government’s broader economic agenda, outlined by President John Mahama during his 2024 election campaign.

According to President Mahama, the 24-hour economy policy is designed to reset the country’s economic trajectory, focusing on the sustainable growth of industry and job creation.

Ghana Gas is keen to align its operations with this national vision. Dr. Lartey emphasized the company’s commitment to contributing to the government’s efforts by focusing on energy infrastructure that supports continuous industrial activity.

He pointed to specific initiatives, such as the completion of the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) Bottling Plant, as key to driving the country’s economy forward.

“The LPG Bottling Plant will create thousands of jobs for Ghanaians, directly contributing to the 24-hour economy.”

As Ghana’s energy needs grow, the LPG plant will ensure that the country has a stable supply of gas for domestic and industrial use, which is essential for industries that aim to operate non-stop.

In addition to boosting national productivity, Ghana Gas remains committed to supporting the communities affected by its projects. As a key player in the energy sector, the company has pledged to engage with local communities to ensure that they benefit from its operations.

The company also promised to improve its existing community engagement efforts, which will include addressing concerns related to the environmental, economic, and social impacts of its projects.

Dr. Lartey emphasized the importance of maintaining strong relationships with project-affected communities, ensuring that the benefits of Ghana Gas’s work are felt by the local population.

By investing in community development initiatives, the company aims to create a mutually beneficial relationship with local populations, ensuring that the country’s growing energy infrastructure also supports local economic growth.

Ghana Gas is strategically positioned to be a key driver of Ghana’s 24-Hour Economy Programme.

Through reliable energy supply, strategic infrastructure investments, and strong leadership, the company is set to play a transformative role in reshaping Ghana’s economic landscape.

With a clear focus on supporting critical sectors like agriculture, transportation, manufacturing, and construction, Ghana Gas will not only contribute to economic growth but also create sustainable job opportunities and enhance Ghana’s global competitiveness.

As the country embarks on this ambitious journey, Ghana Gas remains committed to powering Ghana’s future, 24 hours a day.
