Madam Judith Adjobah Blay, CEO of Ghana Gas

Madam Judith Adjobah Blay has been appointed the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana National Gas Company (GNGC). 

Her appointment marks a new chapter for the state-owned entity, widely regarded as a crucial player in the country’s industrialization agenda and energy sustainability efforts.

Madam Judith Adjobah Blay brings over two decades of experience in Ghana’s energy sector and beyond, with expertise spanning strategic leadership, policy development, procurement, and sustainable business practices.

Her extensive career has seen her successfully manage multi-million-dollar projects, enhance regulatory compliance, and champion local content development.

Her appointment comes at a critical moment when Ghana Gas is expanding its infrastructure to meet the country’s growing energy demands. 

With a track record of driving operational excellence, strengthening governance, and deepening stakeholder engagement, Madam Blay is expected to position the company as a more efficient and competitive entity in the energy value chain.

Impressive Career Journey

Prior to her appointment as CEO, Madam Blay served as the Deputy Director of Contracts Administration at the Petroleum Commission Ghana. 

In this role, she played a pivotal role in ensuring regulatory compliance and overseeing contractual agreements in the upstream petroleum sector.

She also served as the Manager of Community Relations at the Commission, where she led key engagements with local communities and ensured that energy-related projects were implemented with socio-economic considerations in mind. 

Her tenure at the Bui Power Authority saw her establish and manage the Procurement Department, a role that reinforced her expertise in procurement and supply chain management.

Additionally, she served as a Project Coordinator on the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Compact II at the Ministry of Energy in partnership with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). 

This position allowed her to work on energy sector reforms aimed at enhancing efficiency, reliability, and sustainability in Ghana’s power sector.

Academic Excellence and Professional Credentials

Madam Judith Adjobah Blay boasts a rich academic background that further solidifies her credentials as a leader in the energy sector. 

She holds an MA in International Transactions from George Mason University, USA, and an MSc in Procurement & Supply Chain Management from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

She is also a Chartered Member with the Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS-UK), and graduated from the University of Ghana with a BA in French and Linguistics. 

Currently, Madam Judith Adjobah Blay is pursuing an LLM in Public Procurement Law & Policy at the University of Nottingham in the United Kingdom

Madam Blay’s leadership qualities were evident early on in her education. As a product of the prestigious Wesley Girls High School, she has continued to exhibit the discipline, diligence, and strategic thinking for which the school is renowned.

Beyond her professional commitments, she has served as an advisory board member for the Western Regional Coastal Foundation and other initiatives focused on sustainability, further showcasing her thought leadership in the energy sector.

Her solid educational background, coupled with her professional achievements, makes her well-equipped to lead Ghana Gas into its next phase of growth and operational efficiency.

The Ghana National Gas Company (GNGC) plays a pivotal role in the country’s energy landscape, serving as Ghana’s premier midstream gas business entity. 

Incorporated in 2011, GNGC commenced full operations in November 2014 and has since become a key driver of industrialization through gas processing, transportation, and marketing.

Ghana Gas is responsible for producing and prospecting lean gas, condensate, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), and isopentanes. 

The company also supplies natural gas to the Volta River Authority (VRA) for power generation, making it an essential component of Ghana’s energy mix. 

Operating on a business model that generates revenue through processing, transportation, and sales of natural gas and its by-products, GNGC has its headquarters in Accra, with its main gas processing plant located in Atuabo, in the Western Region.

Madam Blay’s appointment comes at a time when Ghana Gas is focusing on expanding its capacity and ensuring a more stable and efficient gas supply for power generation and industrial applications. 

Her experience in regulatory compliance, procurement, and stakeholder engagement is expected to drive improved efficiency and strategic growth within the company.

Her ability to navigate complex industry dynamics, coupled with her firm grasp of procurement and policy development, will be instrumental in ensuring that Ghana Gas continues to be a reliable energy supplier and an economic growth catalyst for Ghana.
