COP Yohunu’s academic foundation is robust, beginning with his secondary education at the prestigious Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School.

He furthered his education at the University of Ghana, where he obtained a Bachelor’s degree before earning an Executive MBA in Project Management from the Institute of Professional Studies (now the University of Professional Studies, Accra – UPSA).

This academic background has equipped him with a blend of theoretical and practical knowledge, which has been instrumental in his leadership approach within the Ghana Police Service.

A Career Marked by Excellence

COP Yohunu’s rise through the ranks of the Ghana Police Service is a testament to his competence and relentless pursuit of excellence.

His career highlights include serving as the Divisional Commander for Accra Central and later as the Accra Regional Operations Commander, where he played a crucial role in maintaining security and order in the capital from November 2007 to May 2009.

In 2011, he was recognized for his meritorious service in combating armed robbery and other criminal activities. he was awarded the Grand Medal, a prestigious national honor.

As COP Yohunu takes the helm of the Ghana Police Service, expectations are high for him to introduce reforms that will modernize the service and enhance public trust in law enforcement.

His tenure as IGP comes at a time when concerns over crime rates, public safety, and police accountability remain critical issues for the nation.

Furthermore, the fight against corruption within the police service is another critical area that will define his tenure.

The Ghana Police Service has faced persistent allegations of corruption, and as IGP, COP Yohunu will need to enforce stringent measures to restore public confidence in the service.

His leadership will also be tested in the realm of internal police welfare, ensuring that personnel are adequately motivated, trained, and equipped to execute their duties effectively.

COP Yohunu’s appointment signals a new chapter in Ghana’s policing framework. His vast experience, coupled with his reputation for professionalism and efficiency, positions him as the right leader to drive reforms that will enhance security, maintain law and order, and elevate the standards of policing in the country.
