Mzbel Explains Why She Stopped Employing Ga’s

Mzbel

Veteran Ghanaian musician, Mzbel, real name Belinda Nana Ekua Amoah, has revealed that despite her close ties to the Ga community, she will never employ anyone to work for her if she knows they are a Ga.

Speaking during an interview to discuss how Ga-Adangbe’s can help each other, Mzbel, who grew up in Accra Central and speaks fluent Ga and is even mistaken by some to be a Ga, said she will never employ someone who is from the tribe.

“I hardly employ Ga people, but I would love to. But the thing is, they won’t work when they come. They’ll come for only two days; that’s the maximum.”

Mzbel

She revealed they have a lackadaisical approach towards work, and aside from that, they start missing work with various excuses, claiming they have to attend a funeral or a program of some sort.

Mzbel claimed most young Ga people are not interested in working but only seek employment due to pressure from their parents therefore once they secure a job, they slack off until they’re no longer employed.

However, the Ghanaian songstress is under fire for accusing Ga’s of laziness.

Having come under heavy criticism from the Ga community on social media, the musician responded, saying she would not apologize for her comments.

“I’m investing my money, time, energy, idea, and links into a talented Ga Dangbe artiste I recently signed to my son’s record label! Instead of supporting me, some of you are coming after me to share my personal experience working with Ga Dangme employees. Did you even listen to my entire conversation on Joy FM? I highlighted many positive points about Ga Dangme creatives!

“And by the way, how many of your favorite Ga Dangme musicians and cultural troupe were employed or invited to the lavish birthday party organized by a Ga Dangbe man a few days ago right in the center of GAMASHIE? Worry about that, and let me be. I owe no one an apology for speaking the truth.”

The Ghanaian hiplife artist spoke about not winning an award after doing music for the past twenty years.

Mzbel who first shot into the limelight in 2004 with her maiden album ‘Awoso Me’, became the biggest female artist during her prime.

She was also very popular in other African countries including Nigeria, Liberia, Ivory Coast, and Kenya, among others.

However, while she admits she had her followers from those countries, she claims her own country, Ghana has not celebrated her with any award.

Speaking in an interview, she said: “I have been in the industry for 20 years; I’ve never received any award.”

She made the statement when talking about what she would do differently if she has yet to start music.

According to her, because she really didn’t prepare for music career, she did things anyhow and that in a way affected her.

“I am not blaming anybody. I think it is the branding. If I were starting music today, I would put more effort into my branding. The branding wasn’t put together well. I was just put out like that, with no proper branding. I would go on the radio and say anything, put on any outfit, go where I am not supposed to.”

Mzbel, known for her outspoken nature, also said she has not retired from music. She is working on a new song that addresses bad friends.

She is known for songs like 16 Years, Awoso Me, Yopoo, Edey Be, Twe Ma Me, Braa Fiifi, and My Bonnet.
