COCOBOD Debunks False Reports on Cocoa Producer Price Announcement

The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has officially urged the public to disregard any news or statement suggesting that a decision has been made regarding the producer price of cocoa for the current season.

In an official press release dated Thursday, 10th April 2025, the Board categorically denied any such development, emphasizing that the necessary structures required to determine and announce the price are not yet in place.

According to the release issued by the Public Affairs Department of COCOBOD, the organization highlighted two fundamental reasons why no producer price announcement could possibly have been made at this time.

First, the statement pointed out the absence of a duly constituted Board of Directors. Without a Board, COCOBOD explained, it is legally and procedurally impossible to take critical decisions such as the determination and announcement of cocoa producer prices.

Second, COCOBOD noted that the Producer Price Review Committee (PPRC) — the technical body mandated to review and propose cocoa prices for approval — is yet to be constituted.

Without this committee, any pronouncement or publication concerning the cocoa producer price would be premature and wholly inaccurate, the statement emphasized.

“In view of the aforementioned reasons, there is no way such an announcement can be made,” COCOBOD stated unequivocally, cautioning both the media and the general public to treat any reports suggesting otherwise with the utmost skepticism.

The development comes amid heightened anticipation among cocoa farmers and stakeholders within Ghana’s cocoa value chain, who are eager for clarity on the price they would receive for their produce.

Cocoa remains one of Ghana’s most important cash crops, accounting for a significant portion of export revenues and sustaining millions of livelihoods.

Currently, the producer price of cocoa in Ghana stands at GH₵3,100 per 64kg bag, equating to GH₵49,600 per tonne.

This figure reflects a marginal increase of 0.03% from the previous price announced in September for the 2024/2025 crop season

In recent months, global cocoa prices have witnessed historic increases, driven largely by supply constraints in major producing countries, including Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire.

Against this backdrop, expectations among cocoa farmers for a corresponding increase in the producer price have been intense.

This environment of expectation has fueled the spread of rumors and speculative reports regarding imminent price announcements — reports that COCOBOD now firmly denies.

The clarification by COCOBOD is seen as an attempt to manage expectations and maintain order within the cocoa sector until proper administrative processes are concluded.

Until the Board is properly reconstituted and the Producer Price Review Committee inaugurated, it remains uncertain when a formal announcement on cocoa prices will be made.

Meanwhile, the Public Affairs Department of COCOBOD encouraged members of the public and stakeholders to verify any information about cocoa pricing directly through official COCOBOD communication channels.

It provided its direct telephone line and email address: (0302) 66-17-66 – publicaffairs@cocobod.gh for further inquiries, reiterating its commitment to transparency and timely updates once the necessary structures are in place.
