Amaarae Responds to Critics After Coachella Performance

Amaarae

Ghanaian-American musician, Amaarae, has reacted to criticisms against her performance at the 2025 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival over the weekend.

While her performance has widely been applauded by Ghanaians and some musicians, a section of the public also criticised the singer for what they say is her silence over some national issues like illegal mining.

Social media users questioned Amaarae’s love for Ghana, particularly when she had constantly professed her love for Ghana during her performance.

Amaarae, in a post on X, clarified that her performance was the culmination of a lifelong mission to elevate Ghanaian music to the global stage.

“Can’t please everybody unfortunately. & usually, I don’t address this type of stuff but last night I gave my heart and soul to a cause I’ve worked towards my whole entire life and I’m elated w the result!!!! I’ve used my voice various other times & as always people don’t have all the info but it is what it is !!!

“Today, on the biggest stage of my life, I used my voice the loudest it’s ever been! I love Ghana no matter what, so whether you hate it or love it… I’m still gonna rep it.”

Amaarae

Amaarae used her moment on the Coachella stage to shine the spotlight on the Ghanaian music industry by performing tracks by other Ghanaian artists.

Some of the songs she paid tribute to were “Stables” by Joey B, “Sore” by the Asakaa boys, “Godzilla” by La Même Gang, and “Wengeze” by Eazzy, introducing many in the crowd to an array of Ghanaian music.

The first week of this year’s event happened from April 11 to 13. The second part will take place from April 18 to 20, 2025.

Ghanaian rapper, Sarkodie, praised singer Amaarae after her historic performance at the 2025 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.

The rapper took to X (formerly Twitter) to applaud her, expressing pride in how she represented Ghana on the global stage. In his post, he wrote: “Big shouts to @amaarae the homeland beautifully represented 👑🇬🇭 a queen and more.”

Amaarae made history when she became the first Ghanaian artist to perform a solo set at Coachella.

The event took place at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California, during the first weekend of the festival. Her performance was one of the most talked-about moments from the show.

She delivered a powerful set that blended her unique sound with performances from other Ghanaian acts. The Ghanaian flag was visible throughout her performance, and she actively encouraged the audience to show support for her home country.

After the performance, many Ghanaians took to social media to show their support, including Sarkodie. They praised Amaarae for lifting the flag of Ghana high and making the country proud on such a big international platform.

Coachella is one of the world’s biggest music and arts festivals. It is held across two weekends.

Sarkodie’s praise of Amaarae stirred reactions.

“Confidence is when you’re able to compliment people without feeling insecure. A KING.”

“The king has spoken🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾King @sarkodie please don’t listen to these loudmouths on twitter and live your beautiful life God has blessed you with… You are the Highest, and no one can take that title from you.”

UtdBherie

“This is what we want! Not someone projecting some small bi from 9ja.”

elton_nana

“Something none of those musicians claiming to put Ghana 🇬🇭 on the map have ever done or done. Performing other people’s songs on a big stage like that and making people know their songs is mad.”
