King Promise on Winning TGMA Artiste of the Year

King Promise

Fresh off his crowning moment as Artiste of the Year at the 26th Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), King Promise is dominating headlines, not just for his well-deserved victory, but for the calm confidence with which he walked into the big night.

While others have speculated, second-guessed, or played it safe with expectations, the ‘Favorite Story’ hitmaker said he was sure all along. He didn’t leave room for doubt.

The musician disclosed that he never entertained any negative thoughts ahead of the event. According to him, he fully believed he would take home the biggest award of the night.

“It’s 100% what I believed in. I said this earlier in an interview. I don’t put that kind of energy in the air, you know. I try to stay positive. Why put it in the air that if I don’t win? I don’t believe in the hearsay. It’s really how I felt (winning the AOTY).”

To him, the win was not just a stroke of luck or public sympathy — it was a reflection of effort, vision, and consistency.

“I believe my work spoke for itself. I try to make sure I always put the music first. Whatever shenanigans follow, it’s really secondary for me. In the year under review, my album that I dropped has done extremely well.”

Addressing the stiff competition for the award, King Promise described the contest among the nominees as “healthy,” adding that every contender was deserving of the recognition.

“Healthy competition, for me, it’s not rivalry because everyone who was nominated for the award definitely deserves to be there. For it to be something of a success, it had to be something of a challenge.”

King Promise

To fans and critics alike, his win feels like the closing of a long chapter — years of consistency, chart-topping singles, and growing global influence, but to King Promise, it’s just another beginning.

Winning Artiste of the Year is the latest milestone in a career that continues to soar — and one that, in his own words, is built on more than just luck: “It’s a blessing,” he said simply. “I’ve worked hard and I deserve it.”

King Promise recounted how he was mocked for losing out on all seven nominations he once had in the Ghana Music Awards.

During his acceptance speech after he won the Artiste of the Year award at the 2025 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMAs), he urged patrons to take inspiration from his success story.

“I just want to say a big thank you to the best fans in the world. If anyone is watching me right now, have a dream, use me as an example of resilience. When I broke out on the scene, I had seven nominations and I left with zero. While some people laughed, I just worked harder because I believe in God’s timing. Today I am the chosen one.”

King Promise

Last year, he lost out on the Artiste of the Year to Stonebwoy after a fierce competition.

Apart from the Artiste of the Year award, King Promise also took home the Afropop Song of the Year with ‘Paris’, Best Afrobeats/Afropop Artiste of the Year, and Album of the Year with ‘True to Self ‘ at the 26th Telecel Ghana Music Awards.

Through Telecel Ghana’s continued support of the TGMAs over the last 15 years, the telecommunications giant is celebrating artistic excellence and actively contributing to the growth of Ghana’s creative economy.

Telecel Ghana continues to play a catalytic role in the Ghanaian creative industry by investing in the Telecel Ghana Music Awards to champion homegrown talent and reinforce the value of the creative economy in national development.
