In another landmark feat, Nigerian international superstar Tems is set to receive another RIAA certification.
As reported by the popular music chart news platform Chart Data, Tems’ hit single ‘Love Me Jeje’ has surpassed 500K units in sales in the United States.
This makes the single eligible for an RIAA gold certification, which is a remarkable feat that comes barely 3 months after she recently added four new RIAA certifications to her collection.
This feat sees Tems extend her record as one of the highest RIAA-certified Nigerian artists whose success has positioned her as a global star.
‘Love Me Jeje’ is one of the singer’s biggest hit songs, which won her second Grammy award for Best African Song Performance at the 67th ceremony. In a testament to her huge fame, she was one of the stars who graced the 2025 MET Gala.
During an interview on the red carpet, she shared that African music is way more than just Afrobeats that the international audience is mostly familiar with. She stated that other genres can follow in the path of Afrobeats to become global sounds.
The singer has particularly enjoyed success in the United States, where she has collaborated with several heavyweight stars, including Beyoncé, Drake, and Future.
On her debut album, ‘Born In The Wild,’she featured American Grammy winning rapper J Cole with whom she shared the stage at the Dreamvile concert earlier in the year.
She was recently nominated for the American Music Award and won the Record of the Year prize at the recently held 17th Headies Awards.
Tems Urges World to Look Beyond Stereotypes

Tems called on the global community to experience firsthand the rich culture of Africa instead of relying on the skewed notions commonly peddled by people who have never set foot on the continent.
Therefore, the ‘Love Me Jeje’ singer invited international visitors to experience Africa, especially Lagos and Ghana, firsthand and gain a genuine perspective on life on the continent.
The singer noted that the true allure of Africa is found in its vibrant cultures and artistic expressions.
“I always encouraged people to go to Lagos and Ghana for vacation. Just go and see for yourself before you make an opinion [about Africa]. See it for yourself and see how you feel. I think it [the beauty of Africa] is in the creativity, the daily efforts, the looks, the songs, the traditions, and the cultures.”

The singer also spoke about how diverse African music is, contrary to the global perception that it is just Afrobeats.
“We [Africans] can go further in every single aspect of sound. We are not just Afrobeats. There is Amapiano, Afrosoul, R&B, and Afro Jazz. There are so many genres in African music that people are not all the way tapped into yet.”

According to Tems, the charm of Ghana and Nigeria lies in the richness of their traditions and the creative energy. “I think it’s just the creativity, it’s the daily effort, it’s the looks, it’s the songs, it’s the traditions, it’s the culture,” she added.
Meanwhile, the singer has emerged as one of the Nigerian artists recently unveiled as nominees for the 2025 BET Awards.
AlthoughAyra Starr is the most nominated African artist with three nominations: Best Female R&B/Pop Artist, Best New Artist, and Best International Act, Tems came a close second with two nominations in the BET Her category for her powerful tracks “Burning” and “Hold On,” both from her debut album ‘Born In The Wild’.
Fellow Nigerian stars Burna Boy, Rema, and Shallipopi also earned notable nominations. Other African acts such as South Africa’s Tyla and Uncle Waffles, Ghana’s Black Sherif, and Tanzania’s Abigail Chams were also nominated in various categories.
Through her music and global presence, Tems continues to shine a light on Africa’s evolving identity, one rooted in tradition, yet boldly creative and globally resonant.
