NPP Advised To Face The Law, Not Play Victim

A prominent member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Professor Avea Nsoh, has criticized the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), whose appointees are currently under investigation by National Security and other crime investigative agencies over alleged offences.

The most recent figure to come under scrutiny is the NPP’s Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Bosiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, who was picked up by the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO).

His arrest has triggered backlash within the NPP, with some members claiming it is a deliberate attempt to intimidate the party.

In response to these claims, Professor Avea Nsoh has called out the NPP, urging them to accept the principle of accountability rather than resorting to public complaints and portraying themselves as victims—especially when, according to him, the party behaved even worse while in power.

In an exclusive interview with Vaultz News, Professor Avea stated that the opposition NPP acted more harshly in prosecuting former appointees and removing people from office during its time in government.

He emphasized that the NPP should submit to accountability rather than alleging political targeting, as no such targeting exists.

“I am extremely excited. I am glad that we are going the way we are going. I am surprised other people are complaining about this. Let me explain, we have a military background, we come from June 4th, we come from 31st December revolution, and all those things. We even have a certain leaning to Nkrumah, who also has that kind of radicalism.

“Now we sat down and allowed the NPP to take up that position to now molest us and treat us so badly. When Kuffour came, as soon as… Atta Mills lost, in mid-year, the vehicles they had given to non-formal workers, as well as those in NADMO were seized on the road and the occupants ejected from their offices. Can you remember how many times the NDC has done that? Very few.”

Professor Avea Nsoh

According to him, the NPP is guilty of carrying out similar actions against former government appointees who were not affiliated with their party.

He alleged that the NPP blocked employee promotions, dismissed some workers, transferred others under questionable circumstances, and even apprehended former officials in a “Rambo-style” manner.

Professor Avea Nsoh further explained that the NDC is simply reflecting the NPP’s own tactics back at them.

“I think the NDC is resetting itself and saying to the NPP: if it’s about militarism, we are the masters. Please fall in line. So, we need to show them that you shouldn’t do to others what you wouldn’t want done to you.”

Professor Avea Nsoh

While he disagrees with some of the recent arrests, he believes there is no need for panic if the individuals involved are innocent of the allegations.

He described the process as a call to accountability and said it should be viewed in that context.

NPP’s Abuse of Power Led to Downfall

Furthermore, Professor Avea Nsoh claimed that Ghanaians had grown weary of the NPP administration, which he accused of openly disregarding and violating the law.

As a result, he said, the people entrusted the NDC with the mandate to clean up the disorder left behind after the NPP’s eight-year tenure.

“One of the reasons why we were voted into power, particularly the neutrals, the independent voters, is because…Akuffo Addo’s government has been reckless in handling our accounts, in handling our social services, and so they expect that they should be taken on and ensure that they account.”

Addressing the issue of the Chief Justice’s suspension, Professor Avea Nsoh questioned, “Was Charlotte Osei not a woman too?”

He argued that if the dismissal of the former Electoral Commissioner was deemed appropriate, then the current petition seeking the removal of the Chief Justice should not be met with objections.

In response to claims by some members of the New Patriotic Party that the recent arrests of top party officials and appointees are acts of political retaliation, Prof. Avea Nsoh dismissed the allegation.

He asserted that if there were indeed political targeting or “witch-hunting,” Ghanaians would have taken to the streets in protest.

He emphasized that the NPP should pay attention to the general mood of the public, who appear to be in support of the arrests and prosecutions being pursued by the Mahama-led administration.

Speaking on the arrest of Chairman Wontumi, he stated that the NPP chairman’s mining company had committed numerous violations in the forest reserve and must therefore be held accountable under the law.
