Speaker Bagbin sends well wishes to BECE Candidates

Hon. Alban S. Kingsford Bagbin

As the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) kicks off nationwide, Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin has extended heartfelt well-wishes to all candidates, encouraging them to face the challenge with confidence, integrity, and determination.

In a message delivered ahead of the exam’s start on June 11, Speaker Bagbin described the BECE as a major turning point in the academic and personal lives of Ghanaian students.

He reminded the candidates that this moment marks “one of the most important exit assessments of your lives,” and is crucial in shaping their futures and contributions to national development.

The Speaker’s statement paid tribute to the tireless efforts students have made in the lead-up to the exams.

He emphasized that he is “not oblivious of how hard you have toiled and labored towards this defining moment,” and expressed deep admiration for the sacrifices many candidates and their families have endured in pursuit of academic success.

“Rest assured that your years of relentless academic pursuit will not be in vain, for hard work is the foundation for sweet success,” he declared, urging the students to remain resilient, even in the face of difficulties during the examination period.

“Even when the examination gets tough, do not despair. Pluck up courage and keep pushing to the very end. Remember that setbacks are but stepping stones on the glorious path to success.”

BECE Candidates Urged to Exhibit Integrity

Furthermore, the Speaker highlighted the need for students to maintain integrity throughout the examination period.

He issued a strong call against examination malpractice and urged students to rely on their own abilities and the guidance of their teachers, and faith in God.

“You alone have the power to make your dreams a reality. So, eschew any form of examination malpractice and depend on your inexhaustible ingenuity and God’s guiding spirit.”

Bagbin reminded students that success is most meaningful when achieved through honesty and diligence, adding, “The taste of victory is sweetest and the applause loudest when you win a race fairly and squarely.”

In an emotionally resonant message, the Speaker linked the students’ current efforts to their potential future leadership of the country.

He urged them to view this examination as more than just a test of academic ability but as a stepping stone to assuming the mantle of leadership in Ghana.

“Your ability to assume leadership of Ghana in the future depends on how well you acquit yourselves at the BECE,” he stated, assuring the students that Parliament would continue to support their development.

Speaker Highlights Value of Education

Moreover, Hon. Alban Bagbin emphasized the long-term value of education and leadership preparation, noting that today’s students are tomorrow’s decision-makers.

“The Parliament of Ghana will continue supporting your growth and development until you take over the mantle of leadership from us. The glittering crown is in sight. Go and claim the glory.”

This year’s BECE is being held under increasing public focus on educational equity, learning outcomes, and youth development in Ghana.

While Speaker Bagbin’s message serves as a morale booster, it also reinforces the importance of hard work, personal discipline, and national pride.

His words arrive at a crucial time when candidates may be grappling with anxiety, uncertainty, and the immense pressure to perform well.

Bagbin’s encouragement reminds them that success is not merely defined by grades but by the values they uphold and the perseverance they show through difficult moments.

“I wish you resounding success in your BECE,” the Speaker concluded, sending a powerful and supportive message to the thousands of young minds across the country preparing to write their exams.

As Ghana continues to invest in youth education and empowerment, Bagbin’s statement reflects a broader national vision—one that sees the BECE not just as an academic hurdle, but as the launchpad for the next generation of responsible, capable leaders.
