Ghanaian defender Kingsley Gyamfi has officially completed a permanent move to Swedish top-flight club Östers IF, signing a multi-year deal following an impressive loan stint from Hammarby IF.
The 21-year-old centre-back initially joined Öster on loan ahead of the 2025 Allsvenskan campaign and wasted no time in stamping his authority on the pitch.
Featuring in eight games during the spring half of the season, Gyamfi quickly earned plaudits for his assured displays at the heart of the defence, prompting the club to secure his services on a long-term basis.
Announcing the deal, Öster’s acting sporting director, Christian Järdler, expressed delight at the acquisition of the promising defender.
“We are very happy to have agreed with Kingsley on a long-term contract. He is a very exciting player with great potential. He’s flexible in defence, strong in duels and calm on the ball.”

Gyamfi’s journey to Swedish football is one of the examples of the steady rise of Ghanaian talent in Europe. As a product of MSK Zilina Africa, the Ghanaian division two side is affiliated with the Slovakian club MŠK Žilina. Gyamfi’s development has been marked by grit, technical growth, and an increasing tactical maturity that has caught the eye of scouts across Scandinavia.
His original move to Hammarby IF in 2024 signaled the beginning of his European adventure. However, it was his loan switch to Öster that proved decisive in accelerating his growth and exposing him to consistent top-flight action.

Appreciation of Affection Received
Reflecting on his permanent move, Gyamfi expressed immense gratitude for the trust and affection he has received in Växjö, where Östers IF is based.
“It feels good to be here permanently now. The supporters, coaches, and staff really appreciate me, and I’m ready to continue helping the team. The coach has given me the platform to show what I can do, and I’m determined to keep proving myself.”

Gyamfi’s performances will not only stabilize Öster’s backline but can also bring a sense of composure and resilience to the team’s defensive efforts.

His strength in aerial duels, intelligent positioning, and ability to play out from the back have made him a fan favorite and an integral part of the club’s plans for the remainder of the season.
The Ghanaian also spoke warmly about his off-the-pitch experience, emphasizing how the local community and club culture have played a pivotal role in helping him settle.
“It’s not just on the pitch – even outside football, the people here have been amazing. It’s rare to feel this much love and support in a new environment”.

With Öster aiming to improve their league position in the second half of the season, Gyamfi’s permanent signing is viewed as a critical step toward building a solid defensive unit capable of competing at the highest level in Swedish football.

Gyamfi is also drawing inspiration from fellow Ghanaian footballers who have successfully made the transition to Europe, including players such as Mohammed Kudus, Daniel Amartey, and Joseph Aidoo.
His ambition is to follow a similar trajectory, using his current platform to hone his skills and earn broader recognition. “I just want to keep working hard. This is a big opportunity for me, and I don’t take it for granted,” he said.
