Possigee Pursues Education in Finland Over Pensions

Possigee

Renowned Ghanaian music producer and sound engineer Awal Alhassan, popularly known as Possigee, has revealed that he is pursuing further education in Finland.

Possigee explained that his decision to return to school stems from the absence of retirement benefits or a pension scheme for creatives in Ghana. “I haven’t stopped music production, but right now I’m furthering my studies in Finland because there’s no pension scheme for us, the sound engineers,” he said.

He noted that the creative industry, particularly music production, has become highly competitive, and without continuous learning and adaptability, it is easy to become irrelevant.

“When we grow old, there’s no money that will be given to us as retirement benefits because the government hasn’t designed any pension scheme for us.”

He further highlighted established producers’ challenges, noting that many new artists prefer to work with their own producers, leaving experienced professionals behind.

“The industry is very competitive. When new artists emerge, they often don’t want to work with producers already in the system—they come with their own people. So, if you don’t upgrade yourself and prepare for the unforeseen, you may end up blaming the system.”

The music producer denied claims by Hiplife legend Obrafour that he is chasing clout.

A recent disagreement erupted between the two over songwriting credits on Sarkodie’s song ‘Hope’, which features Obrafour.

The tension began after Possigee shared a video discussing songwriting in the music industry, prompting Obrafour to comment under the post, accusing him of seeking attention.

“Most people didn’t agree with Obrafour when he commented that I’m chasing clout, because I don’t even put my name on most of the songs I’ve produced. I’m not a clout chaser. In fact, most of the places where people dance to my productions, I don’t even go there for people to see me.”

Possigee

The Ghanaian music producer further explained that even when Sarkodie invites him out, he often declines to avoid public attention.

“Sometimes, Sarkodie invites me out, but I choose not to go because I don’t want to be in the media space all the time. If I were chasing clout, my face would have been in almost every picture with the countless artists I’ve worked with over the past 20 years.”

Possigee

He revealed by suggesting that Obrafour may not truly know him: “Clout chasing was one of the things Obrafour accused me of. That’s what made me realise he might not know me well after all.”

The sound engineer revealed that the late Highlife musician, Dada KD, left behind numerous unreleased songs in his possession, and he is still keeping the data.

“I have the data for so many unreleased songs from Dada KD. He recorded an album in 2022 and brought all the songs to me for mixing. The plan was to begin mixing and mastering once he secured an executive producer, but unfortunately, that never happened. Because of that, all the songs are still with me. I haven’t even started mixing them yet. Also, I don’t know anyone from his management to hand over the songs to.”

Possigee

According to him, if any of his family members contacts him, he will gladly give the songs to them. “But I won’t release them to just anyone who claims to have worked with Dada KD,” he added.

The late Ghanaian Highlife musician, Nana Kwaku Duah, popularly known as Dada KD, will be laid to rest on Saturday, 16th August 2025. His funeral will include a state-assisted burial at the forecourt of the State House in Accra.
