Queens Park Rangers have completed the signing of highly-rated winger Kwame Poku from Peterborough United, adding an exciting attacking option to their ranks ahead of the new Championship campaign.
The 23-year-old joins on a permanent basis following the expiration of his contract at the League One club, although an undisclosed compensation fee has been agreed between the two parties.
The transfer ends Poku’s impressive four-year stay at the Weston Homes Stadium, during which he established himself as one of the standout performers in the third tier of English football.
His consistent displays and attacking output had sparked interest from several clubs in both the Championship and abroad, but QPR have emerged victorious in the race for his signature.

QPR Chief Executive Officer Christian Nourry hailed the signing as a major asset, given the level of competition the club had to fend off to secure Poku’s services.
“His decision to join the football club in the face of interest from Europe competing teams abroad and Championship teams with significantly bigger budgets than us is a fantastic validation of the direction we are moving in.
“Kwame is a player we’ve tracked for some time, and his technical ability, intelligence in the final third, and work ethic make him a perfect fit for the style of football we’re looking to implement at QPR. His decision to come here underlines that we are building something ambitious and compelling.”

Poku, who has already represented Ghana at international level, arrives at Loftus Road on the back of a standout season with Peterborough. He netted 12 goals and registered a number of assists, earning a place in the EFL League One Team of the Season.
His performances were instrumental in helping Posh to successive EFL Trophy triumphs in the 2022/23 and 2023/24 campaigns.

Kwame Poku’s Excitement
Speaking after completing his move to West London, Poku expressed his excitement about the project QPR are building and his belief in the club’s long-term vision.
“I feel like the project they’re building here excites me, and I want to be part of taking QPR to that next level. There are good players here and I think it’s exciting times for the club. From my first conversations with the staff and people around the club, I got the sense that there’s something special being worked on here.”

Poku’s blend of pace, directness, and sharp decision-making in attacking areas has seen him evolve from a promising youngster into a mature and consistent performer.
His technical ability and versatility; being able to operate on either flank or centrally behind the striker are expected to offer QPR manager Martí Cifuentes valuable tactical flexibility.

With pre-season underway, Poku is expected to link up with his new teammates immediately as preparations begin for the 2025/26 season.
The move also presents him with the platform to further cement his place in the Ghana national team setup, with the World Cup qualifiers coming up in a few months.
