Hubtel Dominates 2025 Digital Innovation Awards with Four Major Wins Celebrating

Ghana’s foremost payment services provider, Hubtel, has emerged as one of the standout winners at the 2025 Digital Innovation Awards (DIA), taking home an impressive four awards that underscore its transformative role in e-commerce, SME empowerment, and technological innovation.

This milestone not only highlights Hubtel’s sustained excellence but also reaffirms its place at the forefront of Ghana’s—and now Africa’s—digital revolution.

The DIA, often described as the “Oscars of the ICT industry,” celebrated its 14th edition this year with an expanded Pan-African focus. For Hubtel, this recognition comes as the company celebrates its 20th anniversary, marking two decades of relentless innovation.

At the gala event, Hubtel was honored with:

E‑Commerce Platform of the Year – acknowledging Hubtel’s intuitive marketplace and quick-commerce solutions that have revolutionized how Ghanaians shop for groceries, pay bills, and access essential services.

SME Digital Enabler of the Year – celebrating the company’s continued investment in tools that empower small and medium-sized businesses, from modern point-of-sale systems to integrated payment solutions and business messaging.

Innovation Team of the Year – recognizing the collective brilliance of Hubtel’s engineers, designers, product managers, and delivery staff who bring its ecosystem to life.

Technology Innovator of the Year – awarded to Alex Bram, CEO and co-founder, for his pioneering role in local fintech and for establishing Ghana’s first Artificial Intelligence Lab.

These accolades represent more than trophies—they reflect the impact of Hubtel’s mission to make everyday life “a little easier and a lot more connected.”

A Milestone Edition of the Digital Innovation Awards

Formerly known as the Ghana Information Technology & Telecom Awards (GITTA), the DIA has grown over the past 14 years into West Africa’s premier platform recognizing excellence in ICT, digital transformation, and emerging technologies.

This year, the DIA took a decisive step onto the continental stage by introducing Pan-African categories, acknowledging digital leadership across nations such as Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Rwanda, Botswana, and Ethiopia. This expansion affirms the growing influence of African innovators in shaping the future of technology globally.

Voices of Gratitude and Purpose

Receiving the awards on behalf of Hubtel, Nana Owusu-Marfo, Head of UX and Marketing, shared heartfelt reflections.

“These awards are not just a recognition of our work, they’re a powerful reminder of what’s possible when a team is committed to solving real problems with heart, clarity, and consistency. From merchants to customers, our mission has always been to make everyday life a little easier and a lot more connected.”

He added, “We dedicate these wins to every teammate, partner, and merchant who believes in what we’re building.”

This spirit of gratitude and purpose has been a consistent theme in Hubtel’s journey over the past two decades, driving its commitment to innovation that creates tangible value for millions of Ghanaians.

Celebrating Two Decades of Innovation

As Hubtel marks its 20th anniversary this year, the timing of these awards feels particularly symbolic. From launching as a humble SMS aggregator to building a full-fledged payment ecosystem that includes e-commerce, bill payments, and AI-driven solutions, Hubtel has continually reinvented itself to meet the needs of a dynamic market.

In recent years, the company has prioritized rolling out AI-powered tools to help merchants optimize their businesses and connect with customers in smarter ways. The opening of Ghana’s first AI Lab under Alex Bram’s leadership underscores Hubtel’s ambition to set the agenda for technological advancement in West Africa.

Charting the Future of Digital Commerce

With four new awards adorning its trophy shelf, Hubtel is poised to expand its impact across Ghana and the continent. The company’s focus remains clear: build tools that empower merchants, delight consumers, and accelerate the growth of the digital economy.

As Ghana positions itself as a hub for fintech and innovation, Hubtel’s success story serves as an inspiration and a benchmark. Its journey demonstrates what is possible when technology, vision, and relentless execution come together to transform lives.

In the words of Nana Owusu-Marfo, these accolades are “a powerful reminder of what’s possible”—and a promise of even greater achievements ahead.
