Patrick Mensah Appointed MD of Bogoso Prestea Mine

Mr. Patrick Appiah Mensah, Managing Director of the Bogoso Prestea Gold Mine

Heath Goldfields Ltd has taken a major step in its commitment to restoring the Bogoso Prestea Gold Mine by appointing Mr. Patrick Appiah Mensah as the new Managing Director.

This strategic leadership decision is expected to accelerate the mine’s transition from care and maintenance to full operational status, reinforcing Heath Goldfields’ position as a responsible and forward-looking player in Ghana’s mining industry.

The appointment of Mr. Mensah, a seasoned mining professional, comes at a pivotal time as the company seeks to reposition the mine as a model of sustainable gold mining in Ghana. The new MD is expected to spearhead the revival of operations, secure vital investment, and cultivate strong relationships with stakeholders to ensure long-term value for both the company and the surrounding communities.

With over 21 years of experience in the mining sector, Mr. Mensah brings a wealth of knowledge and a proven track record in leading complex mining operations. His extensive career spans top-tier mining giants such as Glencore’s Kamoto Copper Company in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Gold Fields Ghana, AngloGold Ashanti Ghana, Barrick Corporation Tanzania, and Asante Gold Corporation Ghana.

His professional footprint covers both open-pit and underground mining operations, with a keen focus on engineering, mine operations, capital projects, and organizational transformation. This broad spectrum of expertise makes him ideally suited to lead the Bogoso Prestea project back to life, aligning operational excellence with sustainability goals.

A Blend of Technical Expertise and Executive Insight

Mr. Mensah’s academic background is as impressive as his professional journey. He is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Mining Engineering and Management at the Colorado School of Mines in the United States—a globally renowned institution in mineral and mining engineering. He also holds a Master’s degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT), Tarkwa, and a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi.

Further enriching his executive capabilities, Mr. Mensah holds an MBA from the University of Bradford in the United Kingdom and has completed a Management Development Program at Harvard University. This unique combination of technical prowess and strategic business acumen positions him as an exceptional leader equipped to navigate the challenges and opportunities of modern mining.

As Managing Director, Mr. Mensah’s immediate mandate will be to lead Heath Goldfields’ revitalization strategy for the Bogoso Prestea Gold Mine. This includes restoring operational readiness, identifying investment opportunities, and integrating sustainable practices into every phase of mining activity.

Crucially, his leadership will emphasize building meaningful partnerships with host communities, regulators, and industry stakeholders. In doing so, Heath Goldfields aims not only to revive a critical economic asset but also to enrich the lives of people in the Western Region and beyond.

Commitment to a Sustainable Future

Mr. Mensah’s appointment underscores Heath Goldfields’ renewed commitment to its purpose: to enrich lives through sustainable gold mining. The company has set its sights on delivering lasting value, empowering local communities, and preserving the environment for future generations.

By choosing a leader with both the experience and vision to align mining operations with global best practices in sustainability, Heath Goldfields is signaling a paradigm shift in Ghana’s mining landscape. The revitalization of Bogoso Prestea Gold Mine is not just a corporate undertaking—it is a national milestone in building a more inclusive, resilient, and environmentally conscious mining future.

The appointment of Mr. Patrick Appiah Mensah as Managing Director marks a defining moment for Heath Goldfields Ltd and the future of the Bogoso Prestea Gold Mine.
