Actress Reveals Only Regret In Life

Akuapem Poloo

Ghanaian actress and socialite Rosemond Brown, widely known as Akuapem Poloo, has disclosed that a musician once paid her some money to twerk in videos promoting his song.

Poloo said she began earning money from musicians after creating buzz around herself on social media.

“Stars would call me to dance or twerk on their songs, and they would pay me. Even Fameye was giving me GH¢5,000 to twerk on his song.”

Poloo revealed that her journey to fame was not easy. She admitted to paying people to insult her on social media during the early days of her career to draw attention to herself.

“At first, when I started, I was paying for people to insult me for about a year. I’ve been in the game, and no one calls me, and I was not getting anything, but after that, people were calling me for interviews, skin care deals.”

According to her, the strategy helped her secure brand deals, media interviews, and more opportunities in the entertainment industry.

Recalling her early acting days, she said she earned little for some roles, except for her work with GBC’s Obra series, where she was treated better, thanks to veteran actress Maame Dokono. “As for the acting, GH¢20, with GBC they were giving me something better because of legendary Maame Dokono, so she was taking good care of us, but with the others it was GH¢20,” she said.

The Ghanaian socialite and actress is demanding answers from social media critics about what qualifies someone to become a celebrity.

She struggles to understand why some critics refuse to acknowledge her as such. Akuapem Poloo raised this concern during an interview.

In their conversation, the host asked her how she became a celebrity. The socialite responded to the host with a question.

“I don’t just have a fun base, I’ve done a lot of movies; Odo Lastic, Sala with Jackie Appiah, Away Bus; a lot of movies. So, how many movies do you want me to do before you call me a celebrity?”

Akuapem Poloo

Explaining how she gained traction on social media and rose to overwhelming popularity, Poloo revealed that she collaborated with a blogger who was known for creating controversial posts about celebrities to make them trend to post about her as well, to attract public attention.

“I saw the page talking about celebrities only in a negative way. So I asked myself why the person is fighting all the celebrities. I reached out to her and she responded after 3 months. So I told her that I wanted her to do an advert about me on her page.”

According to her, the blogger initially resisted, but she paid for the post to be made due to how desperate she was for fame. The blogger staged a fight with Akuapem Poloo, which went viral on social media and drew public attention to her.

The socialite also created videos and posted them in support of the blogger’s content, which ultimately earned her the fame she had anticipated.

“After showing all the movies I’ve done and the songs I’ve been featured on, she said we can’t still use that. So she will pick a fight with me by claiming that I called her a prostitute, and she’ll let me do some videos, and she will use them to insult me on Instagram and Facebook.”

The actress said she had been in the industry for many years without recognition.

However, after the blogger’s posts, she began receiving ambassadorial deals and interview invitations from television stations. Based on this, she concluded that the plan had significantly impacted her career growth.
