In the wake of the devastating helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight prominent Ghanaians, Hon. Samuel Abu Jinapor, Member of Parliament for Damongo and former Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, has publicly expressed his deep sorrow over the national tragedy.
The accident, which involved key government figures including the Ministers for Defence and Environment, has left the nation in collective mourning.
Hon. Jinapor expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing his grief as overwhelming as he mourned the tragic death of his close companion, Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, who was among the eight individuals who perished in the devastating helicopter crash.
Alhaji Muniru, who had held several key positions in Ghana’s public service—including Minister for the Northern Region, Minister for the Upper East Region, Minister for Agriculture, and most recently Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator—was honoured by Hon. Jinapor for both his distinguished national service and his deep personal bond.
Jinapor reflected on him not just as a relative but as a trusted advisor, mentor, and unwavering source of support.
“Just two weeks ago, he paid me a visit at my office, accompanied by his son. With characteristic modesty, he shared the news of his most recent appointment. ‘You are the first person I’m telling,’ he said with a warm smile, his eyes lighting up with the joy of a new challenge.
“We spent nearly two hours together that day, talking about everything from governance and national development to family and legacy. His son, a fine young man of college age, full of promise and potential, also spoke with me at length during that visit. We discussed his future and his aspirations.”

The tragic helicopter crash, which has deeply affected the nation, also resulted in the loss of Hon. Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence, and Hon. Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment.
Hon. Jinapor honoured their memory, describing them as cherished friends and brothers whose absence creates an irreplaceable void in both his personal life and the country’s leadership.

Hon. Samuel Jinapor also conveyed deep sorrow over the passing of Dr. Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), recalling their professional relationship during his years in private legal practice. He noted that Dr. Sarpong would be greatly missed.
His tribute further extended to Mr. Samuel Aboagye, a former Parliamentary Candidate and Deputy Director-General of NADMO, as well as Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Amaning Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo—each remembered for their dedicated service to the nation.

“These were not only distinguished citizens but also Ministers of State, senior public servants, military officers, and committed professionals who served our nation with honour and dedication. Their passing is a profound loss to Ghana.
“To their families, colleagues, and all who mourn them, I extend my deepest condolences. We grieve with you, and we honour their memory.”

The Member of Parliament ended his heartfelt message with a solemn expression of sympathy, wishing eternal peace for all who lost their lives in the tragic accident and hoping their families and loved ones find strength and comfort during this time of profound sorrow.
This tragedy marks a sombre moment in Ghana’s political and military history. As tributes pour in from across the country, the loss of these eight individuals is being felt far beyond the political and administrative circles.

The helicopter crash not only extinguished the lives of accomplished leaders and public servants but also reminded the nation of the fragility of life and the value of dedicated service.
The government is yet to release a full report on the incident, and investigations into the cause of the crash are expected to follow in the coming days.
In the meantime, national mourning continues, with flags flying at half-mast and vigils being held in communities and institutions where the deceased served.
As Ghanaians come together in grief, the legacy of those who lost their lives in the helicopter crash will be remembered for their contributions to nation-building, their professionalism, and their unwavering commitment to public service.
