Toke Makinwa Opens Up On Past Marriage Struggles

Toke Makinwa

Toke Makinwa, a prominent media personality, has opened up about her past marriage in a recent conversation.

She discussed the challenges of being in a highly scrutinized relationship while dealing with private struggles that many people did not understand.

Toke Makinwa noted that society often misjudges survivors of difficult situations, assuming that their challenges were not severe simply because they emerged alive and continued their lives.

“People like to say it must not have been that bad because you didn’t die. But if someone comes back 10 minutes stronger, it unsettles others. Instead of learning from it, they see your strength as a threat. Until you have walked in my shoes, don’t comment on it.”

The public nature of her marriage ultimately influenced her decision to leave, as she felt that the overwhelming scrutiny, coupled with the intensity of her emotions, made the situation unsafe for her well-being.

In hindsight, Toke Makinwa admitted that if her marriage had been private, she might have considered staying longer. However, the constant attention and pressure took a toll on her mental health, making it necessary for her to prioritize her own well-being.

She chose to leave the relationship, despite the difficulties of walking away, to preserve her life and future.

Toke Makinwa’s experience highlights the importance of resilience and self-care, particularly in the face of public scrutiny. Her decision to speak out about her past marriage serves as a reminder that survivors of difficult situations deserve support and understanding, rather than judgment or envy.

By sharing her story, Makinwa aims to raise awareness about the challenges of being in a highly publicized relationship and the importance of prioritizing one’s own well-being.

The media personality’s comments have sparked a conversation about the impact of public scrutiny on mental health and relationships.

As a public figure, Makinwa’s experience serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining a healthy work-life balance and prioritizing self-care, even in the face of intense media attention.

Her story also highlights the need for empathy and understanding towards individuals who are facing difficult situations, rather than simply judging them from the outside.

The Nigerian media star and former OAP is embracing a new chapter of her life with joy, but she admitted the journey hasn’t been free of fear.

In a candid reflection, Toke revealed that the early months of her pregnancy were filled with anxiety. She confessed that she often worried about what could go wrong and even wanted to retreat from the world.

But over time, she said she was reminded of her faith—that God’s gifts come without sorrow—and she chose to let her praise outweigh her fears.

Toke, who announced her pregnancy on August 13th with a baby bump reveal video, described this season as “different” and said she now sees how everything becomes beautiful in God’s time.

Her testimony carries extra weight given her past experiences with online trolls. For years, critics mocked her for being unmarried and childless. Last year, she clapped back at a troll who claimed she had “passed the single era and entered the unmarried era,” insisting that her story would unfold in God’s timing.

Today, she is grateful that the same people who mocked her are witnessing her answered prayers. Toke grew emotional while recounting her journey. She shared that she had asked God to make her a mother by the time she turned 40. Remarkably, she discovered her pregnancy just one month after her milestone birthday.

Reflecting on her past relationships, Toke admitted she might have gone through another divorce had she rushed into marriage again, emphasizing that she has learned not to dwell in pity but to trust in divine timing.

Now, with her first child, Toke Makinwa stands as an example of resilience, faith, and patience—proof that life’s blessings often come later than expected, but always at the right moment.
