The District Chief Executive (DCE) of Achiase District, Hon Samuel Owusu Brako, on Thursday, September 18, 2025, officially launched the Achiase District Pragya Association, a pioneering initiative aimed at streamlining the operations of tricycle motorists (popularly known as pragya), enhancing their safety compliance, and ensuring strict adherence to traffic regulations within the district.
Addressing riders and stakeholders at a well-attended ceremony, the DCE underscored the critical role tricycles play in the district’s transport system. He explained that, given the challenging nature of some road networks in Achiase, the use of pragyas has become an indispensable mode of transportation for residents and commuters.
“Pragya has come to stay, and it is our responsibility to make its operation safe, organized, and beneficial to both riders and passengers. This association will help us bring everyone together, regulate the system, and ensure that passengers are transported in a safe and orderly manner.”

As the newly inaugurated association’s patron, the DCE went beyond policy discussions to offer personal advice to the riders. He urged them to maintain high standards of personal hygiene and neatness as they go about their daily work.
“Before you start your day, take your bath and keep your body clean. Look good and presentable because your appearance speaks volumes about your business. I expect every member of this association to emulate my example and always look neat.”

Highlighting the operational framework of the new association, the DCE announced that membership is mandatory for all Pragya riders who wish to operate within the Achiase District.

He outlined key benefits of joining, including the issuance of embossment stickers for easy identification and the provision of reflector uniforms to enhance the safety of riders, especially at night.
“If you are a rider in this district, you must belong to this association. This will help us identify you, provide support, and ensure that every rider operates within the law.”

Chief Inspector Aye Frimpong, who represented the district police command, reinforced the need for strict compliance with traffic regulations. He cautioned riders against reckless riding, unnecessary racing, and operating without the appropriate licenses.
“Ride carefully, obey the laws, and respect other road users,” he said. “We do not want to record avoidable accidents in this district. Make sure you have the proper license before you hit the road. We are grateful to the DCE for showing leadership and helping us bring sanity to the operation of tricycles in Achiase.”

Also speaking at the event, Mrs. Philomena Sackar, Eastern Regional Director of the Narcotics Control Commission, encouraged riders to be mindful of their dietary habits and lifestyle choices while on duty. She specifically warned against the use of hard drugs and other harmful substances, noting that such habits impair judgment and increase the risk of accidents.
“Your health is your wealth, and you need to protect it. Be careful about what you eat and drink when you are on duty. Avoid hard drugs and substances that can cloud your judgment or put your life and the lives of passengers at risk. A clear mind is essential for safe riding.”

The launch of the Achiase District Pragya Association marks a significant step toward regulating and professionalizing tricycle transport in the district. With the combined efforts of the Assembly, law enforcement agencies, and health officials, the initiative is expected to improve rider discipline, passenger safety, and overall transportation efficiency across the Achiase District.

Residents and riders alike expressed optimism that the new association will help tackle challenges such as reckless driving, lack of identification, and poor hygiene standards. As the program concluded, many riders signed up to join the association, signaling their commitment to supporting the Assembly’s vision for a safer and more organized transport sector in Achiase.
