The Birim Central Municipal Assembly in the Eastern Region is spearheading a concerted effort to reclaim lands that have been degraded by the devastating practice of illegal mining, locally known as “galamsey.”

In a collaborative initiative involving key stakeholder agencies, the municipality is taking decisive steps to rehabilitate the affected areas and promote environmental sustainability.

“As part of continuous efforts to reclaim lands degraded by illegal mining within the Birim Central Municipality, I engaged with Partners of Nature Africa (PONA), the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and other key stakeholder agencies to undertake a land reclamation exercise in affected communities.”
