The National Coordinator for Hon. Kennedy Agyapong’s campaign team, Dr. Palgrave Boakye-Danquah, has cautioned that the formation of the United Party (UP-Plus) by former members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is an opportune time for the NPP to reconnect with its roots and values.
Dr. Boakye-Danquah emphasized that the leader of the United Party, Hon. Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanten, is simply pointing out to the NPP some of the problems the party needs to address.
“It clearly tells us that there are some deep concerns within the party that we need to look at. Alan Kyeremanten is reminding us as a party that we need to go back to our roots and our values.”
Dr. Palgrave Boakye-Danquah, National Coordinator for Hon. Kennedy Agyapong’s campaign team.
He further emphasized that the choice of name by Hon. Alan Kyeremanten (UP) sends a strong wake-up call to the New Patriotic Party on how there are deep issues within the party and how the party has drifted from its core principles and values.
It could be recalled that the NPP traces its roots to the United Party of the first republic of Ghana, which was formed due to the Avoidance of Discrimination Act passed by then President Dr. Kwame Nkrumah in 1957.
The said Act prohibited the functioning of non-nationalistic parties. It therefore meant that opposition parties such as the National Liberation Movement (NLM) and the Northern People’s Party (NPP), among others, had to merge to form a nationalistic party known as the United Party (UP).
Dr. Palgrave Boakye Danquah is therefore of the view that the recent formation of the UP-Plus by Hon. Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanten and his team sends a strong signal to the New Patriotic Party, especially when they are in a time of rebuilding.

“I mean, his starting of the UPP, which is the UP plus, clearly indicates that he wants to send a strong signal to the new patriotic party that we must be reminded of where we have come from as a political party and make sure that we do not drift away from it.
“It also clearly tells you that the cracks that are within the party are too deep that we need to be able to immediately remand it and rebuild it.”
Dr. Palgrave Boakye-Danquah, National Coordinator for Hon. Kennedy Agyapong’s campaign team.
He noted that this period of a rebuild gives the New Patriotic Party (NPP) the opportunity to reconsider how they reconnect with and embrace their values that are linked to the United Party of the first republic.
He also expressed his confidence in Hon. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong’s candidacy and how sure he is that he will win the upcoming NPP presidential primaries on January 31, 2026.
He further emphasized that Hon. Kennedy Agyapong is the right person to spearhead a rebuild that would restore the NPP’s values and reconnect it to what he calls the party’s moral fabric.
He also noted that Hon. Alan Kyeremanten’s activities, including the adoption of the UP for his political party shows that he has not completely drifted away from the party.
He emphasized that with the right leadership in place and with a proper rebuild led by Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, the leader of UP-Plus, Hon. Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanten could still be brought back to the New Patriotic Party.

“I am confident that when Kennedy becomes the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party and we have a new change and new fresh ideas, Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanten would be a formidable person that would be part of the reconstruction of this party.”
Dr. Palgrave Boakye-Danquah, National Coordinator for Hon. Kennedy Agyapong’s campaign team.
He also emphasized that the NPP does not see UP-Plus as a threat, noting that the NPP is a formidable party with great history such that it cannot be collapsed in just a matter of days.
He also stated that he does not see the UP-Plus lasting existence, emphasizing that it would not survive beyond the founder, just like how the CPP did not survive beyond Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. “I do not see the long life of this UPP that has been set up.” He stated.
He therefore emphasized the need for rebuilding the New Patriotic Party on unity, given that it is a key component for the rebuild. “This rebuilding agenda is very key because unity is very important.” He stated.
