The spokesperson for the Bryan Acheampong Campaign Team, Mr. Pius Enam Hadzide, has described former Minister for Food and Agriculture and Member of Parliament (MP) for Abetifi, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, as the most strategic candidate to lead and unify the New Patriotic Party (NPP) ahead of the 2028 general elections.

Speaking in an interview, Mr. Hadzide maintained that Dr. Acheampong’s inclusive leadership style and proven competence positioned him as the candidate best equipped to reconcile internal factions and restore cohesion within the party.

For Mr. Hadzide unity remained the NPP’s most pressing challenge following the 2024 elections. He explained that internal divisions and lingering tensions from the 2023 primaries had weakened the party’s effectiveness, making reconciliation essential for a credible comeback in 2028.

“One of our critical needs is unity, peace, and discipline within our ranks. The person who can truly unify this party in the shortest possible time to confront the NDC with an effective, united campaign is Dr. Bryan Acheampong”

Mr. Pius Enam Hadzide, Spokesperson for the Bryan Acheampong Campaign Team

Mr. Hadzide stressed that Dr. Acheampong’s broad appeal across party lines and calm temperament make him the ideal figure to heal post-election rifts and rebuild trust between the grassroots and leadership. According to him, Bryan Acheampong’s approach to politics had always been marked by moderation and consultation rather than confrontation.

The campaign spokesperson also said that among the five aspirants in the upcoming NPP flagbearership race, Dr. Acheampong stood out as the most marketable.

“All five distinguished gentlemen qualify to be presidential candidates, but there is one whose marketability stands out, and who will get us to where we want to be in the shortest possible time, and that person is Dr. Bryan Acheampong”

Mr. Hadzide explained that Dr. Acheampong’s neutrality in the aftermath of the 2023 primaries had strengthened his standing within the party.

He explained that Dr. Acheampong maintained cordial relations with all factions, including those loyal to former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and former MP Kennedy Agyapong, and “had not been associated with divisive rhetoric.”

According to him, this conciliatory approach was critical for rebuilding confidence in the NPP’s leadership structure and for projecting an image of stability and readiness to govern. He argued that the party’s success in 2028 would depend largely on its ability to close internal ranks before campaigning begins in earnest.

Response to Fertiliser Allegations

Mr. Hadzide also dismissed as false and politically motivated the allegations that Dr. Acheampong hoarded fertilisers meant for farmers during the 2024 dry spell when he served as Minister for Agriculture.

The allegations, which circulated after the NPP’s electoral loss, claimed that mismanagement of fertiliser distribution contributed to voter dissatisfaction in rural areas. “How can that be? What is Bryan Acheampong going to do with fertiliser? Somebody who is self-made?” Mr. Hadzide remarked.

He clarified that the minister’s role was to coordinate national agricultural policy and not to handle direct distribution to farmers.

According to him, under Dr. Acheampong’s leadership, the Ministry of Food and Agriculture ensured that fertilisers were imported and delivered to all regions in a timely manner. Any reported delays, he said, were due to administrative challenges at the district level.

“The minister’s job is not to go and carry fertilisers and distribute them to farmers. That is a job for the localised decentralised structures of our governance system, assemblies and so on”

Mr. Pius Enam Hadzide, Spokesperson for the Bryan Acheampong Campaign Team

He described attempts to link Dr. Acheampong to distribution lapses as acts of “desperation in the highest order,” insisting that the former minister’s record remained unblemished.

Mr. Hadzide concluded that the NPP’s prospects in 2028 would depend on its ability to rally around a unifying figure capable of appealing to both the base and the undecided voter. He maintained that Dr. Acheampong’s combination of administrative experience, neutrality, and party loyalty positioned him to lead that process effectively.

The statements by Mr. Hadzide comes as internal consultations within the NPP intensify ahead of the party’s official flagbearer selection process scheduled for mid-2026.
