“Give Me Five Hours”: How Sarkodie Saved Kinaata’s ‘Have Mercy Pt 2’ at the Last Minute

Ghanaian Highlife sensation Kofi Kinaata has opened up about the intense pressure, excitement, and unexpected twists behind the release of his new spiritual hit, Have Mercy Pt 2.

The remix, which features a powerful verse from rap icon Sarkodie, has quickly gained momentum across digital platforms and radio stations. But according to Kinaata, the song’s release almost took a different turn until Sarkodie stepped in at the very last minute. His candid reflection has sparked conversations about artistry, fan expectations, and the spiritual undertones of the song.

Kinaata revealed that the idea of a remix was not originally part of his creative plan. The first version of Have Mercy had already become a beloved hit, resonating with fans for its spiritual depth and relatable message. Yet, the pressure mounted as listeners kept demanding a continuation of the prayerful track.

He admitted that the overwhelming requests pushed him to consider collaborating with Sarkodie, affectionately called The Landlord. His fans were relentless in pushing for another version. “He is the one who saved the day because my fans were disturbing me for part two,” Kinaata explained. The challenge became how to create something fresh while preserving the original’s sacred feel.

Sarkodie’s Unexpected Intervention

Kinaata shared a touching and humorous account of how Sarkodie ultimately came through for the remix. He recalled visiting the rapper at a time when he was extremely busy. “When I went to him, he told me he was in the middle of something, having a photoshoot, but then said I should give him five hours and see what God would do,” Kinaata recounted.

Despite the tight schedule, Sarkodie delivered beyond expectations. Kinaata continued, “When I woke up the following morning, I noticed he had sent me his verse. He is the one who saved the day because my fans were disturbing me for part two.” The speed at which Sarkodie responded left Kinaata grateful and impressed, proving once again why the rapper’s work ethic is so widely respected.

Although the remix has generated impressive streams and airplay, Kinaata did not shy away from discussing the mixed responses from fans. Some listeners felt deeply connected to the purity of the original version and were hesitant about any additions.

He addressed these concerns with honesty. “When a song is already doing well and making waves, some people will never appreciate any additions you make to it,” he said. This reaction is not uncommon with remixes, especially when the first version becomes a spiritual anthem for many.

Still, Kinaata stood by his decision, explaining that the remix maintained its devotional essence. Have Mercy Pt 2 was created as an extension of the original prayer. He intentionally kept his own part short to allow Sarkodie to “continue with his prayer,” giving the song a seamless spiritual flow.

The Dance Floor Surprise

One of the most humorous revelations from Kinaata’s recent interviews was the unexpected dance trends surrounding the song. While Have Mercy Pt 2 carries a slower tempo intended to deepen its contemplative feel, fans have taken it in a different direction.

“Even though we slowed the tempo down for the second part, Kasoa people have told me they are twerking to that also,” he joked. The surprise did not stop there. Kinaata added that his hometown, Effiekuma in Takoradi, had already been twerking to the original version, which had a faster rhythm.

This reaction highlights the unique relationship Ghanaians have with music, where even spiritual or introspective songs can ignite lively dance floor moments.

Despite the humor and excitement surrounding the remix, Kinaata made it clear that the heart of Have Mercy remains spiritual. The song is a heartfelt plea for financial breakthrough, a theme that resonates deeply with many facing economic pressures.

The collaboration with Sarkodie amplified this prayerful tone, adding lyrical depth and emotional meaning. The remix stands not only as an artistic achievement but also as a reflection of Ghanaian society’s pursuit of hope and upliftment.

The story behind Have Mercy Pt 2 reveals the complexities and joys of remixing a beloved hit. Kinaata’s openness about fan reactions, his respect for Sarkodie’s contribution, and the unexpected dance floor responses paint a vivid picture of music’s power to connect, inspire, and surprise.
