Where Are The Other Political Parties?

Usually, the phrase, ‘the early bird, catches the worm’, is sometimes interpreted into a whole lot of multiplicity.

A student, might interpret it as being someone who studies early during a semester and is able to recall or have ample time for other courses; a worker, would interpret it as, rising early to miss the Monday morning traffic.

A Political Party, on the other hand, would interpret it as preparing as early as possible to capture political power, install a Presidential candidate and equipped with a strong manifesto.

Where are all the other political parties? I ask again. In recent times, not to be outdated, but with our thoughts concentrated on this year alone, we have heard from the two major political parties; The National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

These two parties have so far been strolling the news with new faces contesting for both Presidential and Parliamentary positions, with intentions of leading their parties to victory through the electorates.

There is only a years’ interval till the 2024 General Election hits the road, but there has been no news from the Convention Peoples Party (CPP), Democratic Peoples Party (DPP), Peoples National Convention (PNC), Progressive Peoples Party (PPP), Ghana Union Movement (GUM) and the likes of many other parties.

It would seem that the multi-party system in Ghana does not work and is probably in shambles. This is because the country has a two dominant Political Party system in place. Thus; the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

These two parties have ruled the nation, Ghana, for over 20 years with no other external political party being able to go toe to toe with any of them.

It is a sad situation that the country finds herself in, even within this current economy where the faces of new men with new ideas are sought for, and not that of the same old people over and over again.

However, it would seem that both the NPP and the NDC are at each other’s neck, because they are old faces appearing within the parties who would want to steer the reins of power. With the likes the Former Trade Minister, Alan Kyerematen, Kennedy Agyapong, Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia and others contesting for the flagbearer-ship of the NPP.

Within the NDC too, there has been a notable stir that has carried forth fresh wind into the parliament house. The leadership of the Minority Caucus has been changed because it is believed that when preparation meets opportunity, success is inevitable.

So since the economy and the world is changing, there is a need for change for preparation in every aspect of the society to catch up or help carry them to victory.

In all this, the question still remains, where are all the other political parties?

Join Forces

The other political parties which include parties such as the CPP, DPP, PNC, PPP, GUM, and many other unmentioned political parties who are probably forgotten, should have started ‘hyping’ themselves in order to catch the eye of the people.

Last minute studies have proven to have failed many. Therefore, they should not wait until Ghanaians are in the year 2024, before they come forth with their campaign messages and flagbearers. It would be too late and they would be led into utter defeat and regret.

Most Ghanaians plan not to vote in the upcoming election if there is not a worthy adversary to stand against the NPP and the NDC, because the likes and leadership strategies of these two parties have been the air Ghanaians breathe; they have tasted and seen, and yet had not gotten any benefit from it.

The NPP and NDC are taking over the media these days. These other political parties that plan on entering the 2024 General election should take chance of the hullaballoo ongoing, where the NPP and NDC are going at each other and then make stances where they can connect with the masses at hand.

Both the NPP and the NDC command masses, so the best available option for these other political parties is to start early just like the early bird or join forces.

Smaller or independent political parties who have representatives in the Parliament house usually join forces with either the Majority or the Minority caucus in parliament to either receive special treatment of have some sort of backing in parliament.

As such, when these smaller political parties draw forces together, they would be able to stand against the NPP and the NDC. Why? This is because when all these smaller parties come together and elect one man as their flagbearer, having the support of all other 15 or more political parties, they stand a chance at shaking the table on which the NPP and NDC electorates stand.

Without 51% plus, a political party cannot obtain power in a country. Definitely, these political parties coming together, would be the third striking force in the country that would give the other two a run for their money, and create an opening, enabling them compete against these two for power.
