Edudzi Tamakloe Reprimands NPP For Likening Mahama’s Annotations With Bryan’s Commentaries

Godwin Edudzi Tamakloe

Godwin Edudzi Tamakloe, member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) legal team, has described as empty efforts, as the governing New Patriotic Party compares the boot-for-boot comment made by former President John Dramani Mahama, with recent remarks by the MP for Abetifi, Bryan Acheampong, which have been described as reckless.

Prior to the 2020 general elections, John Dramani Mahama claimed the NDC will face NPP boot for boot, if the NPP continued to frighten members of the NDC through the use of vigilante groups and hoodlums.

However, in recent times, Mahama has said the upcoming 2024 general elections, will be a ‘do or die’ affair for the NDC.

This is what has been compared to the comments made by Bryan Acheampong, whom addressing party supporters in Mpreaso during the Easter holiday, indicated that they (NPP) will hold onto power, after the 2024 general elections.

The NPP in a statement, defended the Minister for Food and Agriculture and compared his comments with that of Mr. Mahama and other bigwigs in the NDC, whose comments the party says threaten the security of the country.

Speaking in an interview, Edudzi Tamakloe, after petitioning the Criminal Investigative Department (CID) to investigate the Minister of Agric, averred that it is baseless for anyone to compare both comments.

Asked if he agrees with some NPP members who say Bryan Acheampong’s comment is in response to Mr. Mahama’s boot-for-boot remarks, Edudzi Tamakloe asserted, “That’s a very empty attempt of equalization. Mr. Mahama’s statement was the aftermath of the deployment of bandits at the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency by-election. He reminded the NPP government that the manner in which they were operating, they should know that Ghanaians are not cowards”.

He lashed out at the MP for spewing such comments that have the tendency to threaten the peace of the country.

“He is actually putting his party members on the war front, the MP for Abetifi should know better not to make inflammatory comments. If the rule of law is to be respected, then Bryan Acheampong should equally be arrested and put before court.”

Nana B Pressures Police To Arrest Mahama Over ‘Do Or Die’ Comment

Henry Nana Boakye, the National Organizer of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), disclosed that they are forwarding a petition to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), for the arrest and prosecution of former President John Dramani Mahama over his ‘do-or-die’ comment.

Nana Boakye said Mr. Mahama needs to be arrested for inciting political violence.

In an interview, Nana B stated, “former President, John Mahama, said for the 2020 general elections, it’s boot for boot, and 2024 general elections, it’s going to be a do-or-die affair”, insisting that those utterances could incite violence in the country.

“We (NPP) are forwarding a petition to the police CID. We are calling for the immediate arrest, investigation and prosecution of former President John Dramani Mahama, for all these comments that he has made. We are of the view that, it undermines national security and the peace that we are enjoying, it undermines our democratic stability.

“We have also included the National Chairman of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, over his statements which in our view undermine the peace and stability we enjoy as a democratic nation. During his acceptance speech at the NDC congress, he said they are prepared to sacrifice everything including sacrificing their lives to achieve victory. We are calling for the arrest of these two gentlemen, former President Mahama and Asiedu Nketiah, for these comments they made.”

Henry Nana Boakye

Therefore, he reiterated that the NPP fully supports the comments by Mr. Acheampong, adding that his comments are premised on the economic crisis which the government is working to change the fortunes of the country.

“We support Bryan’s utterances because we are not going to hand over power to you [NDC] because we will win. If we lose, we will hand over power to you. He never said whether the NDC loses or wins, we are not going to hand over power to them. He never said NPP, whether we win or lose, we are not going to hand over. We find absolutely nothing wrong with his comment, we fully support him.”
